Import Specialist - Project Cargo


Location: Houston, Texas, USA


We are seeking a meticulous and experienced Import Specialist to join our Project Cargo team in Houston. The Import Specialist will be responsible for managing and coordinating the importation of large-scale and complex project cargo shipments. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of international logistics, customs regulations, and the unique challenges associated with project cargo.


Key Responsibilities


Import Coordination:


  • Manage the end-to-end import process for project cargo, ensuring timely and efficient transportation.
  • Coordinate with carriers, shippers, and other logistics partners to arrange for the import of oversized and heavy lift cargo.
  • Oversee the documentation process, ensuring all necessary paperwork is accurately prepared and submitted.


Customs Compliance:


  • Ensure compliance with all U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations and other relevant governmental agencies.
  • Prepare and review import documentation, including bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin.
  • Resolve any customs issues or delays, liaising with customs brokers and government officials as needed.


Project Management:


  • Collaborate with project managers to develop and implement logistics plans for specific projects.
  • Monitor the progress of shipments, providing regular updates to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Handle any logistical challenges or emergencies that arise during the import process.


Client Relationship Management:


  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring a high level of customer service and satisfaction.
  • Address client inquiries and concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Provide clients with accurate and timely information regarding the status of their shipments.


Operational Efficiency:


  • Work closely with the operations team to optimize routing, minimize costs, and improve overall efficiency.
  • Utilize logistics software to track and manage shipments.
  • Analyze import operations and identify areas for improvement.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Business, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in import logistics, with a focus on project cargo.
  • In-depth knowledge of U.S. import regulations and customs procedures.
  • Proven experience managing the logistics of oversized and heavy lift cargo.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in logistics software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
