Founded in 1972, Wolf Park is a nonprofit organization with the mission to enhance the public awareness of wolves and their ecological significance in nature. As part of our mission, we welcome behavioral research experts throughout the world to learn more about wolf behavior, we provide education about the importance of wolves through a variety of programs, and promote overall conservation efforts designed to improve our relationship with nature. 


The Executive Director serves as the key management leader of Wolf Park and oversees the administration, programs and strategic plan of the organization. Other key duties include fundraising, marketing, and community outreach. The position reports directly to the Board of Directors.


GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Board Governance: Works with the board in order to fulfill the organization’s mission.

  • Lead Wolf Park in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors
  • Communicate effectively with the board and provide, in a timely and accurate manner, all reports and information necessary for the board to function properly and to make informed decisions
  • Financial Performance and Viability: Develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization.
  • Oversee the fiscal integrity of Wolf Park, to include submission to the board of a proposed annual budget and quarterly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization
  • Operate within the approved budget, ensure maximum resource utilization, and maintain the organization in a positive financial position
  • In consultation with the board, determine and fulfill the annual fundraising goals necessary to support Wolf Park’s mission

Organization Mission and Strategy: Works with board and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning and community outreach.

  • Plan and execute Wolf Park’s programs to carry out the organization’s mission
  • Collaborate with board and staff to create and enact a strategic plan that ensures Wolf Park can successfully fulfill its mission into the future
  • Enhance Wolf Park’s image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic and private organizations

Organization Operations: Oversees and implements appropriate resources to ensure that the operations of the organization are effective.

  • Provide effective administration of Wolf Park operations
  • Hire, retain and supervise qualified park staff; Provide management oversight, direction and performance goals and feedback to staff members
  • Authorize documents on behalf of the organization


PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Three or more years related nonprofit experience preferred
  • Proven budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making and reporting
  • Superior problem solving, analytical, quantitative, organizational and project management skills
  • Self-starter with the ability to take initiative to solve problems, assume responsibility and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency working independently/without close oversight, while encouraging a team dynamic among internal and external audiences
  • Ability to make quick decisions in complex and often high-pressure situations involving both humans and animals when they may have opposing needs
  • Ability to represent the park with tact and diplomacy at all times
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Competency conveying a vision of Wolf Park’s strategic future to staff, board, volunteers and donors and the ability to communicate that vision based on the audience
  • Knowledge of fundraising and donor relations strategies unique to the nonprofit sector
  • Experience providing guidance and motivation for board members, staff and volunteers and encouraging these groups to work together toward a common goal
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to interface and engage with diverse volunteer and donor groups
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff
  • Strong public speaking ability
  • Knowledge of progressive animal welfare strategies and trends with understanding of the daily functions of animal care
  • Understanding of and appreciation for conservation of wildlife species and ecosystems 


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and follow an annual budget
  • Establish employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions and for the day-to-day operation of the park
  • Serve as Wolf Park’s primary spokesperson to the organization’s stakeholders, the media and the general public
  • Establish and maintain relationships with like-minded organizations and utilize those relationships to strategically enhance Wolf Park’s mission
  • Report to and work closely with the Board of Directors to seek their involvement in policy decisions, fundraising and to increase the overall visibility of Wolf Park
  • Supervise and collaborate with organization staff
  • Oversee marketing and other communications efforts with the intent to increase revenue
  • Review and approve contracts for services
  • Other duties as needed and/or assigned by the Board of Directors
