Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for managing programs, policies and practices related to environmental and safety compliance, emergency & evacuation, loss prevention, and workers’ compensation at two locations (CA and AZ). The EHS Manager will act as the facility coordinator and primary contact for internal customers and external agencies regarding all matters pertaining to Environmental Health & Safety. The EHS Manager will be integral in driving a culture of engagement and collaboration.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical support and direction for safety and environmental compliance programs and practices.
  • Oversees all aspects of safety and health administration. Influences positive and proactive safety programs and practices. Manages and facilitates the plant safety committee.
  • Develops, recommends, and implements programs to assure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal environmental regulations, including documentation, reporting, permits, hazardous waste manifests awareness, and authorized level training and policy development.
  • Coordinates and manages all on-site hazardous materials.
  • Develops and implement programs to engage and empower all team members in the EHS program.
  • Responsible for the worker’s compensation program.
  • Develop effective KPIs to drive actions and behaviors relative to the safety program.
  • Acts as the primary contact for all employees on accident reporting, investigation, and hazard elimination. Tracks all activity for the facility related to lost work time, return to work initiatives, and restricted duty provisions.
  • Develops and administers EHS training and communication programs (Hazard Communication, Hazmat, confined space, personal protective equipment, Safety Data Sheets, Job Safety Analysis, Life Protection Rules, etc.). Facilitates contractor safety orientation programs. Tracks all training programs and prepares annual training plans.
  • Interfaces with external agencies, plant, division, senior and corporate contacts regarding EHS initiatives, programs, and practices.
  • Demonstrates a continual focus on improvements and enhancements. Works safely, promoting the health and well-being of the individual and the environment.
  • Lead in annual EHS audit, and year-round audit prep and participates in auditing other locations.
  • Participates in and champions continuous improvement initiatives and culture.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Travel as required.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree is in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, Biology, related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience facilitating and managing Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) programs.
  • Minimum 4 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Broad knowledge of local, state, and federal programs and regulations related to Environmental Health & Safety, (i.e., OSHA, Cal-OSHA, etc.).
  • Experience with safety and environmental inspection and audit processes.
  • Strong communication both written and oral.

Preferred:

  • 2+ years of managerial experience.
  • CSP Certification
  • Previous experience in the acquisition of permits and interaction with regulators.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position. At times the incumbent will be required to stand; walk; use of hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and to talk; or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color and depth vision. Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Exposure to allergens such as Soy, Wheat, Tree Nuts, Milk/Dairy, eggs etc.
