Role

The Maintenance Team Officer is a key member of the Maintenance and Facilities team and contributes to the general improvement and maintence of the school facilities and grounds. The Maintenance Team Officer will support in identifying and undertaking jobs and tasks to be completed on a daily, weekly and term basis. A key aspect of the Maintenance Team Officer¿s role in the school community is to be able to communicate effectively and develop a good working relationship with staff members, students and contractors at all levels.This position reports to the Maintenance Team Manager and will undertake all tasks and duties directed by them. The Maintenance Team Officer is required to work flexibly and reliably within tight timelines and with minimal direction in a team environment.

Responsibilities

The role has specific responsibilities including the following:

Conducting grounds checks for hazards, repairs needed, work required and address issues accordingly. Open and disarm the school buildings at 7am each morning Ordering and purchasing of goods and equipment as required Carrying out repairs - internal and external, as per the school¿s internal Maintenance Portal and lists negotiated with the Maintenance Team Manager, Business Manager or delegate (any work requiring specialised expertise will be referred to a contractor as required). Maintain amenities/minor cleaning tasks where required to ensure OHS requirements are met, including the updating of the Chemical Register. Follow appropriate OH&S and risk management procedures and ensure OH&S requirements and legislated standards are met. Addressing where feasible, any health and safety hazards. Willing to undergo additional training/licences as required by the school. General external tidying and maintaining of pathways and steps, including use of sweeper/blower. Basic landscaping and the overseeing of gardening including mowing (ride on mower/wiper snipper), trimming, weeding, cutting back/pruning, mulching, spraying, planting. Liaise with contractors who may be required to perform scheduled or emergency maintenance in the school. Painting as required. Removal of graffiti and other debris. Keeping storage facilities clean and tidy. Cleaning up and temporary securing of broken windows and doors. Moving of furniture and assisting with setting up rooms for exams, meetings and assemblies. Assisting with the setup of school functions/events such as Parent/Teacher Interviews, Sports days. Retrieving items from rooftops, and maintenance of gutters and drains. Document maintenance activities. Respond to any emergency situation in an appropriate manner and undertake such other duties as may be required. Liaise with the cleaners on any maintenance issues. Regularly monitor and report on any security issues; for example: open windows, unlocked doors etc. Undertake other duties as requested by the Maintenance Team Manager, Business Manager or Principal.

This position requires attendance of 25 days (full time equivalent) during school vacation periods. You will be paid a leave purchase allowance for that attendance.

Location Profile

Reservoir High is a medium sized school of approximately 700 students that has proudly served the Reservoir, Preston, and Kingsbury communities since 1958. It is situated on the original Reservoir High School site on Plenty Road in Reservoir, with a mixture of original buildings and new purpose-built teaching and learning spaces. The Middle Years Literacy and Numeracy Strategy (MYLNS) provides identified students with one-on-one tutoring to ensure they meet the national standard in Literacy and Numeracy skills before graduating. Our Student Support Team consists of a Wellbeing Coordinator, a Mental Health Practitioner, a Youth Worker and a school nurse. This team supports staff and students and they also deliver extensive peer mentor and wellbeing programs throughout the year for a range of student groups dependent on need. We also have a Doctor-in-School, which provides a full medical service to our students and families. Student leadership, voice and agency is highly valued and students have the opportunity to hold a range of formal leadership positions including School Captains and undertake membership on both the School Council and the Student Representative Council. To ensure all our students have the essential skills and knowledge relevant to 21st Century Learning, Reservoir High School has a one-to-one student laptop program, incorporating both a school-provisioned option in addition to a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) approach that provides all students in Years 9-12 with their own laptops.
