The Office of the Kansas Attorney General (OAG) is accepting applications to fill a  Legal Assistant  position in our Special Litigation and Constitutional Issues Division to perform paraprofessional legal and administrative support functions. PRIMARY DUTIES

Assist in drafting, proofreading, and filling legal documents in connection with civil proceedings before state and federal courts and administrative agencies. Assist attorney during trial with witness and exhibit coordination which may include some travel.  Preparation of monthly administrative reports and annual legislative report. Request and coordinate with various State agencies to obtain, redact and distribute records to counsel for the parties.  Maintain and update our electronic document management system (LawBase) and scan documents for electronic storage. Assist attorneys in preparation and execution of litigation, including distributing discovery, coordinating sequence of witnesses, preparing trial notebooks (exhibit list, etc.) and obtaining prepared demonstrative exhibits.  Prepare and maintain case files in both paper and digital form; compiles trial and case information. Arrange travel and prepare travel vouchers for attorneys and/or witnesses. Assist other administrative support staff and attorneys as needed.  Assist with various administrative functions to include: processing incoming and outgoing mail, answering incoming telephone calls, responding to emails in a timely manner, filing and/or delivering documents, office supply maintenance, photocopying reports, proofreading, and maintaining attorney calendars.

Qualifications A minimum of two (2) years of experience as a legal assistant, paralegal, or legal secretary in a legal office setting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Pro. Experience working in a customer service oriented environment. Exceptional organizational skills are required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Four (4) years of experience as a legal assistant, paralegal, or legal secretary in a legal office setting. Experience working with an electronic document management/case management system. Electronic discovery experience. Experience with electronic filing.

In this position, you would be authorized access to private information to the extent necessary to perform the assigned duties. Employees must be cautious not to release this information to the public or other individuals, including but not limited to OAG employees who have not been authorized or who do not have a legitimate organizational, departmental, or business need to know.
