Responsibilities



Conducts research on the application of novel, light, stable isotope systems to nuclear materials. Develops methods for isotopic ratio measurement in support of efforts related to nuclear energy.

May specialize in:

Geochemistry: Studies the geosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere, atmosphere, and/or interactions of these systems with human activities. Uses scientific principles, instrument measurements, computer models, data analysis, and knowledge of policy and regulatory drivers to study the environment and/or develop solutions to environmental problems. Leverages knowledge and tools from fields such as ecology, biology, physics, chemistry, geochemistry, soil science, geology, hydrology, atmospheric science, economics, and/or integrated assessment. Chemistry: Conducts research of organic or inorganic substances. Analyzes and tests new or existing materials to identify their properties and characteristics for the development or improvement of new or existing products. Studies the relationship between chemical and physical properties.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

BS/BA and 2 years of relevant experience -OR- MS/MA -OR- PhD

Preferred Qualifications:

Significant hands-on experience working with one or more techniques: thermal ionization mass spectrometry (TIMS), inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), isotope ratio mass spectrometry (IRMS), noble gas mass spectrometry, gas mass spectrometry (MAT-271/MAT-271 Ultra or MAT-253/MAT-253 UltraMAT-271 or MAT-253). Experience with standardization efforts related to isotopic measurements. Expertise in method development and analysis of light, stable isotope systems via IRMS. Experience working with radioisotopes. Proficiency in processing, statistical analysis, interpretation, and visualization of data. Strong understanding of kinetic and equilibrium effects in novel, light, stable isotope systems. Hands-on experience with sample and standard preparation in clean laboratory environments. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated experience publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at scientific conferences. Demonstrated ability to work individually and as a team member.
Hazardous Working Conditions/Environment

Candidate will be trained and must perform to Radiation Worker standards (Radiological Worker II), as well as building and project procedures for managing radioactive and hazardous materials. The candidate will be working with radioactive materials and chemicals in laboratories that are in radiological controlled areas, including radiation areas, radioactive material areas, and contamination areas.
