The Mental Health Division provides mental health assessment and interventions for people experiencing mental illness and their families and carers. Working from a recovery-oriented model, the Mental Health Division provides an array of hospital-based, community and specialist services for infants, children, young people, adults and aged people.

Adolescent Inpatient Unit

Austin Campus

Permanent Full time and Part-time hours available- 114hrs

The Adolescent Inpatient Unit is an 11 bed unit for young people 13-18 years of age. The unit accepts admissions for assessment and treatment, as well as crisis. These young people may be experiencing emotional, behavioural and/or social difficulties and have usually had some outpatient treatment. 

About the role: 

As an Austin Health Nurse you will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of evidence-based nursing care in designated medical specialties, in order to optimize health outcomes for the community. 

Key responsibilities will see you: 

Support a philosophy of care, which is patient focused, from admission to discharge, and where the family is welcome in the carers team Ensure the well-being and safety of patients by following the values and principles, which underpin best practice in relation to patient care, education and patient rights Achieve and maintain the skills necessary, through personal professional development, to plan, prioritize and implement holistic patient care

You’ll further have:

Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia Registered Nurse registration Practices within own scope of practice in accordance with legislation affecting nursing practice and healthcare including (but not limited to) the Mental Health Act of Victoria 2014, The Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act 2001 and the Health Records Act 2001 Recognises and responds appropriately to unsafe or unprofessional practice Practices within a professional and ethical nursing framework in accordance with the policies of the organisation A commitment to quality, best practice and environmental safety The ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form Practises in a way that acknowledges the dignity, culture, values, beliefs and rights of individuals /groups and aligning to Austin Health’s organisational values.
