This position is located in Everglades National Park, in the Division of Visitor and Resource Protection.This is a temporary promotion not to exceed 1 year, and can be extended up to 5 years. This temporary promotion may be made permanent without further competition.

Duties
Incumbent supports the overall goals and mission of National Park Service and of Everglades National Park by building, and maintaining positive communication and effective working relationships with supervisor, coworkers, park visitors, park neighbors, other divisions, concessions, and outside agencies. This position functions as an administrative position in the law enforcement program of the park and serves as the Division Chief for Visitor and Resource Protection at Everglades National Park. The incumbent provides leadership and is responsible for organizing, planning, directing, coordinating, and reviewing all programs in the division. Program responsibilities include law enforcement, emergency medical services, search and rescue, structural fire protection, entrance station management, special park use permits, and resource protection at Everglades NP. Serves as the primary advisor to the Superintendent of the park, in order to ensure the accomplishments of the law enforcement mission of the park and as a principal advisor to the superintendent on all aspects of ranger activities. Provides leadership and direction for a complex Visitor Resource and Protection program. Manages a diverse group of employees including the development of priorities, workplans, etc.... Manages and oversees multiple funding sources including the park recreation fee program. Works with internal and external stakeholders to provide emergency law enforcement services across all districts of the park. Develops long range plans to accomplish goals and evaluates to ensure successful accomplishments.Area/Duty Station Information: At 1.5 million acres in size, Everglades National Park contains a vast ecosystem, with wetland sloughs and prairies, tropical hardwood hammocks, pine rocklands, extensive mangrove estuaries, and Florida Bay with its expansive seagrass meadows. This vast ecosystem is the largest subtropical wilderness area in North America and the largest legislated wilderness area east of the Rocky Mountains. More than 5 million people live on the edge of the park in the communities of Miami, Homestead, Naples and the Florida Keys. Park headquarters is located in Homestead, Fl.
South Florida has two distinct seasons (rainy and dry). The rainy season occurs from mid-April to mid-November and the dry season is from mid-November to mid-April. Heavy downpours, tropical storms and hurricanes are frequent in the rainy season, and temperatures can exceed 90'F for extended periods of time. During the dry season the skies are clear and sunny, and temperatures vary from mid 60's to mid 70's. Occasional cold fronts can cause temperatures to dip into the 40's and 50's. South Florida offers a wide variety of recreational activities including diving, paddling, fishing, bicycling etc. Urban communities adjacent to the park offer a wide variety of sporting events, performances and concerts, museums, festivals and more The vibrant diversity of South Florida offers unique opportunities for an immersive cultural living experience.
