The Psychologist II assures that psychological and forensic evaluations, individual, group and family therapies are provided to those patients who require and can benefit from these services. Provides input into the psychological factors and recovery needs of patients to recovery teams as assigned. Provides staff training in the development of psychoeducational groups and classes on the recovery unit. Serves on committees throughout the facility as needed. Provides backup for the supervising Psychologist as needed. Supervises the work of others as assigned. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Performs other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location. Essential Job Functions:
1. Attends work on a regular basis and may be asked to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
2. Administers and interprets psychological tests (including forensic assessments) and conducts diagnostic assessments. Provides consultation and/or testimony to courts as required.
3. Reviews psychological reports for completeness and accuracy.
4. Provides individual or group therapy for the adult acute psychiatric population and/or other possible specialty populations.
5. Provides ongoing services for and participates in multidisciplinary treatment team activities.
6. Performs other duties as assigned. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location. Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Knowledge of and skills in interviewing techniques with individuals and families, and knowledge of current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) diagnostic criteria
Broad based understanding of psychological/personality theory and severe and persistent mental illness
Knowledge of administration, scoring, and interpretation of a variety of psychological tests, including personality and intellectual instruments
Knowledge of, and ability to perform forensic evaluations such as competency assessments, and violence risk assessments preferred.
Understanding of principles of Continuous Quality Improvement and ethical standards
Knowledge of The Joint Commission (TJC) standards and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) conditions of participation relating to psychological services
Clear and concise communication and interpersonal skills
Therapeutic skills in individual and group therapy required.
Skills in behavior therapy, CBT, and DBT, preferred.
Ability to integrate data and theory into a sound understanding of patients with severe and persistent mental illness.
Ability to convey understanding of patients and other information to others through clear and organized reporting.
Ability to work with individuals and groups.
