Stores And Inventory Manager

General Statement
Under general direction, manages the stores and inventory functions of the Procurement and Materials Management Department.
Essential Job Functions

Directs the ongoing operations of the District’s storerooms located at the Stickney, Calumet, O’Brien and Egan Water Reclamation Plants; monitors day-to-day performance through review of reports, studies, observation, audits and personal contact. Develops or enhances systems, policies, procedures and facilities to maximize service and minimize inventory costs; supervises enhancements and updates to the materials management module in SAP. Coordinates ordering, receiving, warehousing and distribution of materials and equipment with other divisions and departments; participates in Inventory Review Board meetings and acts as Chair for the Board of Standards; administers system contracts. Plans and establishes the Division’s long and short term goals, budget forecasts and performance measures. Assigns, supervises and reviews work; ensures staff compliance with District policies and procedures including Personnel Rules and Administrative Procedures; completes performance reviews; addresses employee complaints and grievances; recommends employment actions such as hiring, transfer, suspension, promotion or discharge.

Environmental Conditions
Work is performed in a typical office environment and requires the use of standard office equipment including computers.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of storeroom and warehousing operations. Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of computerized inventory control management. Thorough knowledge of the interrelationships between inventory control systems and stores operations. Thorough knowledge of the principles and techniques of the movement and storage of industrial-type commodities and equipment. Thorough knowledge of the material and supply needs of the District. Thorough knowledge of quality control techniques in inventory control systems and stores operations. Knowledge of budget preparation and management. Ability to develop and review of statistical studies and reports relating to supply levels and distribution. Ability to plan and supervise the work of a section or other organizational unit. Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures and systems related to inventory control and stores operations. Ability to plan and supervise the work of subordinate staff. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university majoring in business or public administration and eight years of experience in stores and inventory control or purchasing administration with emphasis on industrial-type commodities and equipment. Four years of this experience must have been at a supervisory level.
Substitution
Additional supervisory experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Graduate study in business and public administration may be substituted for the required non-supervisory experience on a year-for-year basis, to a maximum of two years.
Promotional Requirement
One year of service with the District as a Supervising Stores Specialist. Civil service status as a Supervising Stores Specialist.-
