Job Description: Device Solutions is seeking a dynamic manager to lead our hardware engineering team in designing cutting-edge solutions that exceed customer expectations. In this role, you will provide critical technical oversight to your team, reviewing their designs / contributions to help them overcome challenges while also fostering professional growth and maintaining high levels of employee satisfaction.
The Hardware Engineering Manager reports directly to the Director of Engineering (DOE) and is responsible for supporting them in fostering a culture of excellence within the organization by driving process improvements that increase our company productivity, profitability, and quality of work.
Responsibilities:
Project Execution
- Provide critical technical oversight of projects to maximize long-term profitability, customer satisfaction, and repeat business.
- Ensure hardware solutions are practical, well-architected, and aligned with project objectives.
- Review designs and contributions from the engineering team to ensure adherence to quality standards and customer/product requirements.
- Provide technical guidance to engineering staff.
- Communicate with customers to clarify their needs and convey technical details of proposed solutions.
- Complete root cause analysis studies to document Lessons Learned and drive future improvements.
- Complete detailed design and development work on projects as needed.
Operations
- Drive continuous incremental improvements of engineering processes to optimize efficiency and ensure high quality deliverables.
- Support in identifying and maintaining tools and processes to increase productivity.
- Drive the “Lesson’s Learned” process to ensure the appropriate corrective actions are followed on future programs.
- Assist DOE in defining and updating/maintaining the performance management process and tools.
- Collaborate with project management team to identify and allocate appropriate resources (staffing) for each project based on parameters.
- Work with DOE and project management team to help resolve project and resource conflicts.
Personnel
- Mentor engineering staff on processes and expectations to ensure high degrees of success.
- Monitor and advise engineering staff to ensure that their efforts are within scope and aligned with engineering best practices.
- Foster collaborative relationships with engineering staff to effectively drive professional development
- Hold consistent one-on-one meetings with engineering staff to provide feedback and manage performance.
- Identify and empower technical leads to handle day-to-day project operations.
- Perform line management duties over technical staff and ensure work areas and shared spaces are responsibly maintained.
- Facilitate and encourage communication and interaction among team members.
- Exemplify and reinforce the company culture set by executive management.
