The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) recognizes its Engineers are a highly valued resource and play a critical role in ensuring the State’s infrastructure is safe, reliable, dependable, and sustainable. For that reason we are now providing monetary recruitment incentives to new DelDOT Engineers in accordance to our Recruitment Program Policy and Procedures.

The program provides recruitment incentives as follows:

Sign-On Bonus – Incentives are based on the position classification:

$4,000 Engineer I $5,000 Engineer II $6,000 Engineer III $7,000 Engineer IV

Incentives are paid three months from the initial date of employment. New employees accepting this recruitment bonus must commit to two consecutive years of employment with DelDOT in the Engineer I-IV series. Must be a new hire to the State of Delaware or new to the Engineer classification series within the State of Delaware

NOTE: You will receive more information during the hiring process. This program is administered by the Department of Transportation’s Human Resources – Employment Services section. The program may be terminated by the Department of Transportation at any time with or without notice.

Summary Statement

This engineering position will be responsible for assuring that subdivision, construction, and commercial entrance plans meet current DelDOT standards and regulations. This position will also work with local land use agencies to maintain a predictable process approval environment for developers and citizens, coordinate land-use proposals, issue plan approvals and other responsibilities as required. In addition, they will ensure the plans are reviewed and approved efficiently in the interest of delivering excellent customer service within the Development Coordination Section.

Preferred Qualification

Applicants who do not possess the preferred qualification will still be eligible to compete for this position if job requirements are met. Six months experience in preparing and/or reviewing subdivision street and entrance designs.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class. Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete job duties of similar kind not specifically listed here. Drafts, develops and modifies engineering designs, plans and specifications.
Reviews permit applications, blueprints and/or designs prepared by others to ensure compliance with specifications and regulations.
Applies the principles and theories of science and mathematics to research and develop solutions to technical problems.
Plans and conducts field studies, surveys, research and development projects, inspections and/or investigations to collect data and ensure conformance to state/federal laws and regulations.
Tests or evaluates materials, equipment, systems and facilities.
Plans and coordinates engineering projects.
Reviews, analyzes and reports on the status of projects and/or regulatory conformance.
Develops cost estimates for project time and materials.
Provides technical guidance and training to technical staff.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Engineer IV 

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

1. Possession of a valid Delaware Professional Engineering License OR Possession of a valid Professional Engineering license issued by a proper authority of a state, territory or possession of the United States, the District of Columbia, or a province or territory of Canada.
2. At least five years experience in one or more of the discipline(s) of engineering shown below.

Six months experience in engineering project management which includes planning, scheduling, staffing, coordinating, controlling, monitoring, evaluating and reporting on the status of engineering projects.
