Role

The Assistant Principal in Teaching, Learning & Professional Growth will serve as an expert practitioner, responsible for leading the school's professional learning agenda, driving continuous improvement in teaching practices throughout the college. They will lead a team of practice improvement specialists, employing a coaching model to support professional growth for all staff to enhance student outcomes.


With deep knowledge and expertise in high-quality teaching and learning, this leader will strategically enhance curriculum programs within the school, fostering improved achievement, engagement, and wellbeing among students.

Collaborating closely with the College Principal Team, they will provide proactive leadership aligned with Department of Education and Training (DET) and school expectations, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for the school community while nurturing a strong, inclusive, and positive school culture.

Drawing upon established school-based models and the DET¿s Victorian Teaching and Learning Model, along with associated resources, the Assistant Principal in Teaching, Learning and Professional Growth will champion a culture of growth and consistency across the college.

Responsibilities

The key roles of the Director of Teaching, Learning and Professional Growth may include but are not limited to:

Working with the Principal Team, to develop and lead a strategic approach to the provision of whole school professional learning to support improved student outcomes. Leading a team of Practice Improvement Specialists to employ school-based and DET models to enhance teacher practice using an instructional coaching approach across the College.  Developing and leading the implementation of Professional Learning Communities across the college. Leading the use of student data to inform teaching approaches at a classroom level and supporting the school to make evidence-based and data informed decisions related to its professional learning plan. Ensuring that the school has a clear, well documented curriculum in line with VCAA and DET frameworks. Leading and modeling exemplary classroom practice and the implementation of whole-school improvement strategies related to curriculum planning, delivery and assessment. Contribute as a member of the College Consultation and Planning Standing Committee, and develop and review processes and policies in line with DET requirements. Ensuring that the college is managing risk in line with DET requirements, and that an organisational culture of Child safety is being strengthened and embedded at all times. Providing visible and supportive leadership to the school community at all times, in line with the values of both Mill Park Secondary College and DET Deputise for Campus and or Assistant Principal when required, and perform any other duties as required by the Principal.

VIT LANTITE

To be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in the principal or teacher class a person must have provisional or full registration from the Victorian Institute of Teaching. In addition, from 3 August 2020, to be eligible for employment in the principal class or teacher class, a person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education program after 1 July 2016, must demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements. This condition is satisfied where the LANTITE requirement is part of the Victorian Initial Teacher Education program completed by the person.
