Role

Leading teachers will be highly skilled classroom practitioners and undertake leadership and management roles commensurate with their salary range. The role of leading teachers is to improve the skill, knowledge and performance of the teaching workforce in a school or group of schools and to improve the curriculum program of a school.

Typically, leading teachers are responsible for coordinating a number of staff to achieve improvements in teaching and learning which may involve the coordination and professional support of colleagues through modelling, collaborating and coaching and using processes that develop knowledge, practice and professional engagement in others.

Leading teachers are expected to lead and manage a significant area or function within the school with a high degree of independence to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program.

Leading teachers will be expected to make a significant contribution to policy development relating to teaching and learning in the school. A leading teacher has a direct impact and influence on the achievement of the school goals.

Leading teachers are usually responsible for the implementation of one or more priorities contained in the school strategic plan.

Responsibilities

The Director of Teaching and Learning is an integral member of the School Improvement Team and Teaching & Learning Team with core responsibilities for leading our approach to teaching, learning, data and assessment. They will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team, PLC Leaders, Intervention & Support teachers and all staff in implementing key strategies supporting the learning needs of all students, ensuring that high quality teaching, learning, assessment and reporting procedures are implemented. A key component of this work is to ensure that the College resources support the teaching and learning process.

The Director of Teaching and Learning is accountable to the Assistant Principal (Learning).

Some of the key responsibilities linked with this role include:

Pedagogical Leadership:

·Develop and implement a strategic vision for pedagogy that fosters high- quality teaching and learning across the school.

·Lead the adoption and integration of contemporary pedagogical practices, ensuring they are research-informed and aligned with the Walcom Ngarrwa Instructional Model and lesson flow.

·Support and mentor teachers in refining their instructional techniques to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.

Assessment and Data:

·Design and oversee the implementation of assessment frameworks that are rigorous, equitable, and aligned with curriculum goals.

·Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of assessment practices, ensuring they provide accurate and actionable insights into student learning.

·Facilitate professional learning on best practices for assessment, including formative and summative assessment strategies.

·Utilize student performance data to drive instructional improvements and inform curriculum development.

·Lead the analysis of assessment data to identify trends, areas for development, and strategies for enhancing student achievement.

·Provide guidance to teachers on interpreting data and using it to tailor instruction and support individual student needs.

Professional Learning:

·Design and deliver targeted professional learning programs focused on pedagogy, assessment, and data use.

·Support teachers in setting and achieving professional goals related to effective teaching practices and data utilisation.

·Promote a culture of continuous improvement and reflective practice among staff.

Curriculum Development:

·Collaborate with PLC Leaders and teachers to ensure that curriculum design and delivery are aligned with pedagogical goals and assessment requirements.

·Review and refine curriculum materials to ensure they are engaging, challenging, and responsive to student needs.

Collaboration and Communication:

·Work closely with school leaders, teaching staff, and other stakeholders to ensure a cohesive approach to teaching, learning, assessment, and data.

·Communicate effectively with students, parents, and the school community about curriculum expectations, assessment practices, and student progress.

·Supporting student management processes throughout the school as a leader.

Compliance and Accountability:

·Ensure that all teaching and assessment practices comply with relevant educational policies and standards from the Department, VCAA and ACARA.

·Prepare and present reports on teaching and learning outcomes, assessment data, and strategic initiatives to the school leadership team and governing bodies.

·Any other duties as specified by the Principal.

Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.

VIT LANTITE

To be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in the principal or teacher class a person must have provisional or full registration from the Victorian Institute of Teaching. In addition, from 3 August 2020, to be eligible for employment in the principal class or teacher class, a person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education program after 1 July 2016, must demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements. This condition is satisfied where the LANTITE requirement is part of the Victorian Initial Teacher Education program completed by the person.

We are located in the Harpley Estate in Frome Cr, Werribee, which is 31km west of the Melbourne CBD.We commenced this year with 176, Year 7 students in and we will be adding a new year level, each year until we cater for students in Year 7-12.We anticipate a peak enrolment of 1200 - 1400 students at our College.
