Position Summary & Responsibilities

Join our Disciplinary team as a Special Medical Investigator. As a Special Medical Investigator with the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts, you will be conducting investigations related to alleged standard of care violations with an emphasis on investigating allegations of sexual misconduct and boundary violations. You will be collecting tangible evidence by subpoena or other means such as interviewing complainants, healthcare professionals, and witnesses. Some onsite visits to practices and facilities may be necessary for this role. The Special Medical Investigator will be required to document and record all processes and findings by means of comprehensive reports, detailed logs, and memorandums. At times, this position may be required to provide testimony at depositions, public hearings, and courts of law.
Successful applicants in this position are familiar with statutes and regulations that relate to the Healing Arts Act or other health professions’ practice acts. Special Medical Investigators will at times be required to coordinate investigative activities with other entities. The subject matters that are being investigated and inspected require the Special Medical Investigator to respectfully and effectively communicate with a broad spectrum of health care professionals, complainants, witnesses, legal professionals, law enforcement, and others, both verbally and in writing.
Minimum Qualifications
Two years’ experience investigating (i.e. performing fact-finding analysis, investigative research, data analysis, and report writing). Education, training, and/or experience investigating allegations of sexual misconduct. Experience in criminal justice or healthcare related fields such as Risk Management, Quality Assurance/Utilization, Medical records (R.R.A., A.R.T., R.H.I.T.) or a licensed, registered or certified healthcare provider (such as R.N., L.P.N., E.M.T), therapist, counselor, social worker, or other relevant experience determined by agency-
