Duties

Performs work involved in maintaining, testing, and repairing all equipment in a hydroelectric powerplant and pumping stations.
Overhauls, repairs, evaluates, and performance tests turbines, generators, motors, air compressors, pumps, pressure regulators, eductors, valves, pipes, penstocks, intakes, spillways, diversion dam, and wasteway gates including appurtenant mechanical controls.
Operates the powerplant Domestic Water Treatment Facility to include operation, testing of domestic drinking water, and obtaining grab samples for testing.
Monitors lab sensitive equipment and calibration of the equipment as well as the repair of mechanical controls, dismantling, reconstructing and fabricating parts as needed for the daily operation of the facility.
Operates heavy equipment to include mobile cranes, backhoes, boom trucks, dump trucks, tractors, and forklifts.
Performs welding tasks using gas welding equipment or electric welding equipment.
Operates overhead, mobile, gantry and jib cranes and performs rigging incidental to lifting, moving, dismantling, assembling, overhauling, and/or repairing hydroelectric powerplant and pumping plant machinery and related equipment.
Uses technical drawings, specifications, and records to fill out required forms such as job hazard analysis, work plants, and special permits.
Plans work sequences, selecting tools, and materials needed to complete assignments.

You must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
You must be suitable for federal employment, determined by a background investigation.

You must maintain a valid State Driver's License at all times as the position requires operation of government vehicles on government and public roads. Failure to maintain a valid State Driver's License at all times will result in removal from the position.
You will be required to obtain a successful pre-employment physical examination by a licensed physician certifying your ability to perform the duties of this position. A physical exam may not be required if a comparable agency approved examination was performed within the last 12 months. The cost of the exam will be reimbursed by the agency.
You must be able to obtain a California Water Treatment License to operate the powerplant Domestic Water Treatment Facility within one year of entering the position.
You must submit a performance appraisal if you are a current or former federal employee

This position requires a fully skilled Plant Mechanic or Machinist
with skill in at least two of the following trades: Welder, Pipefitter/Plumber, Millwright, Crane Operator/Rigger. If your resume does not clearly reflect this experience, your application will be marked as ineligible.
