Job Description: Automation Engineer

Location: The Woodlands (Hybrid Position)

Type: Ongoing Contract Role

Department: Supporting Midstream Engineering and Operations Group

JOB SUMMARY

This position provides I&E/Automation Engineering support to the Client's midstream engineering and operations groups.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support Automation Engineering and directly manage and support the Automation Lab. This dual role's responsibilities include:
  • Supporting engineering in the design, construction, and commissioning of midstream facilities.
  • Participating in technical reviews and providing technical support to other company departments.
  • Supporting the development of corporate standards surrounding control system design, including hardware, panel design, software, and HMI layout.
  • Supporting the development of corporate standards and practices associated with instrumentation for the purpose of controls and monitoring midstream facilities.
  • Managing third-party contractors in the implementation of project execution associated with I&E and control systems.
  • Reviewing third-party contractor engineering packages.
  • Receiving, testing, analyzing, recording, and reporting testing results to appropriate Automation/Measurement/Operations Teams.
  • Effectively communicating with third-party vendors and maintaining good rapport with vendors.
  • Supporting operations in upgrades and modifications to existing facilities.
  • Maintaining automation lab equipment for hardware testing and software FATs.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in the design, implementation, and optimization of control systems within midstream (gas, oil, and water) processing facilities.
  • Experience in the commissioning/startup of midstream facilities.
  • Strong communication and people skills.
  • Highly proficient in desktop applications (spreadsheets, email, word processing applications, etc.).
  • Experience in determining and performing RTU/EFM, controller, and instrumentation tests needed for analysis and reporting to engineering & operations.
  • High level of knowledge of natural gas processing and process control.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills/experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC code, API RP 500, and applicable regulations surrounding electrical power and instrumentation systems in the Oil & Gas industry.
  • High level of expertise in industry-standard control systems, specifically PLC and DCS controllers and software instructions. Experience with Allen Bradley (SLC, CLX) PLCs & Emerson Delta V DCS is highly desirable.
  • Working experience with HMI software, including but not limited to Cygnet, Ignition, Wonderware, and RS View/FactoryTalk View.
  • Experience with implementing control strategies commonly utilized in gas treating/compression facilities, including PID control loops, motor controls, alarm management, and advanced controls.
  • Project management experience is preferable, including managing third-party contractors.
  • Experience reviewing instrumentation, electrical, and control system drawings.
  • Working experience with measurement devices, including but not limited to flow meters, analyzers, level transmitters, pressure transmitters, temperature transmitters, etc.
  • Working experience with Allen Bradley, ABB Totalflow, Emerson ROC 800, and other RTU/EFM's.


TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Travel to field locations or other company office locations required (higher or lower for specific time periods depending on work tasks and projects). The percentage of travel required for this position is 10-25%.

WORK SCHEDULE

This position will work 9 hours Monday - Thursday and 4 hours on Friday.

Essential skills and knowledge

EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Electrical Engineering is preferred. Other engineering disciplines may be considered with appropriate experience. Title and compensation will be based on experience level.
