Location: 49th Street North, Clearwater FL

Schedule: 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The Clerk of the Circuit Court is looking for new members to join our team as part of one of the finest organizations in Pinellas County. Employees of the Clerk of the Circuit Court provide quality service to our public.

An employee in this position must be able to make independent decisions based on experience and training as well as the ability to tactfully and effectively communicate with the judiciary, attorneys, law enforcement and the general public within a courtroom setting. A person in this position performs specialized administrative duties while attending court sessions, taking minutes both manually and electronically which accurately reflect the court action; preparing a wide variety of court documents; and maintaining the care, custody and control of tangible evidence submitted in court. The ability to meet additional work requirements (weekends, holidays, evenings and emergency situations), and remain physically calm and mentally alert while sitting in court for long periods of time is vital. It is also essential that the applicant have reliable transportation in order to travel to other court locations on assignment; good communication skills; a professional demeanor; and the ability to be an effective team player.

What Would You Do?

Responsible for recording minutes of court sessions, which entails accurately documenting the action taken by the Court either in handwritten minutes or by utilizing the In-Court Docketing computer system. Prepare a variety of court related orders and paperwork. Research information in the case management system. Train other court clerks. Perform filing related duties as assigned. Administer oaths to witnesses and jurors. Responsible for the care, custody and control of all tangible evidence submitted in court. High degree of contact with judges, attorneys, defendants and the general public. Perform independent secretarial and clerical duties in two court areas (County Criminal, Circuit Criminal, Juvenile, Traffic or Civil/Small Claims). Work overtime, including weekends and holidays. Conform to legal requirements and rights of the accused. Performs related work as assigned, or required.

What Do You Need To Have?

3 years’ experience in secretarial/clerical work, 1 year of which has been in work related to legal or court procedures; and 1 year which involved use of personal computers, Windows based applications; or Associate’s degree and at least 1 year of experience in secretarial/clerical work, 1 year of which has been in work related to legal or court procedures; and 1 year which involved use of personal computers, Windows based applications; or Bachelor's or higher-level degree; or An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience. Possession and maintenance of a valid Florida Driver’s License. Work overtime, including weekends and holidays. Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.

Highly Desirable

Communication skills. Command of the English language. Self-motivated. Professional demeanor. Ability to travel to other court locations on assignment. Ability to be an effective team player and to multi-task. Ability to remain physically calm and mentally alert while sitting in a courtroom for long periods of time.
