Governmental Affairs Liaison.

Under the general supervision of the Senior Assistant Director, the position serves as the Judicial Council/Administrative Office of the Courts (JC/AOC) Governmental Affairs Liaison, including main point of contact on legislative matters, facilitating communication with governmental entities and partners, and monitoring General Assembly activities. The position is responsible for coordinating judicial branch responses to legislative proposals, and providing liaison services to judges and the AOC Director on special projects, committees, councils, and other groups. The position works and interacts with internal customers and external stakeholders, including, but not limited to, the Supreme Court, the Judicial Council, the General Assembly, the Governor’s Office, and the State Bar. Outside of the legislative process, this position manages special projects and participates as a member of the Director’s Judicial Council staff team.
Job Responsibilities (the following duties do not include all responsibilities that may be performed):
• Works to formulate and execute strategy for the Judicial Council’s identified legislative goals; works closely with Judicial Council leadership and coordinates with trial court councils on legislative initiatives.
• Monitor, track, and analyze legislation affecting the judicial branch.
• Maintain an active presence at the State Capitol during the 40-day legislative session, including regular attendance in House and Senate Judiciary hearings.
• Works to coordinate interaction with the executive and legislative branches on behalf of the JC/AOC and designated staff, department, agency, other programs and/or external customers as appropriate.
• Plans and coordinates meetings regarding agency-specific issues.
• Oversees the development and on-going management of one or more special projects consistent with agency goals and objectives, which may include staff support to the Judicial Council and its committees.
• Provides back-up support to Senior Assistant Director to direct departmental operations, as needed.
• Manages staff and contractors as assigned.
• Liaison with trial court councils and serve as speaker for presentations (including but not limited to annual legislative updates) to court councils and other clients as requested.
• Responds to inquiries from the public and government agencies and offices.
• Participates in the planning, coordination, development, and implementation of long-range goals and objectives, as needed.
• Performs job responsibilities on time and with minimal supervision.
• Performs other duties as may be assigned.

• Completion of assignments and duties in a timely and appropriate manner.
• Ability to organize and manage program areas.
• Ability to work in a collaborative team environment to achieve goals.
• Proficiency in Microsoft 365 suite (including Teams), Zoom, Adobe Acrobat.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Completion of a bachelor's degree in a related field.
• Three or more years’ experience working with legislative and/or executive branches of Georgia government.
• Political acumen and good relationships within Georgia State Government.
• Possession of a valid Georgia Driver’s License and ability to operate an automobile.
• Ability to travel overnight, statewide and regionally, as dictated by the functions of the position and the business needs of the agency.
• Ability to work in a hybrid work environment, including weekly in-office days.
