Senior Network Engineer

  • Dublin, California

Responsibilities

  • Directs the investigation of new technologies and strategies for communication system deployment and integration into production.
  • Directs the technical analysis of software and hardware.
  • Writes and reviews requirements documents for evaluation of new hardware/software.
  • Coordinates vendor product demonstrations, setup evaluation criteria and development recommendations for purchase of new hardware/software.
  • Develops relationships with vendors.
  • Partners with internal/external staff to develop requirements for new services and applications to meet the needs
  • Develops security definitions for the operation and management of communications systems.
  • Maintains awareness of evolving information technologies through professional publications, outside contacts, and ongoing professional development.
  • Provides Tier 3 technical support to members as part of an on-call.
  • Consults with users to diagnose and resolve problems on multiple software or hardware platforms.
  • Serves as an on call escalation point for other engineers.
  • Applies network systems knowledge to plan, design and develop systems, and properly deploy systems to support the organization.
  • Evaluates the benefits and limitations of commonly used local wired and
  • wireless voice and data communication architectures, devices and protocols; as well as wide-area voice and data architectures, devices and protocols.
  • Coordinates installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and fine-tuning of the LAN and WAN including all hardware, software, security, telecommunications and networking components.
  • Reviews proposed applications for compatibility and interoperability.
  • Analyzes LAN and WAN utilization statistics, performance measures and system profiles to ensure network effectiveness and robustness.
  • Identifies potential performance or capacity problems and plans for changes to avert problems.
  • Evaluates available enterprise network systems including performance, security, capacity, scalability, cost and other relevant factors; recommends optimal network solutions.
  • Identifies and controls all LAN and WAN hardware and software configuration.
  • Develops technical standards and procedures for LAN and WAN development, implementation and management.
  • Performs end-user acceptance testing for telecommunication projects.
  • Ordering and tracking vendor circuits based on predesigned network requirements.
  • Maintain historical records, system support documents, and technical diagrams.
  • Install and configure physical and virtual network components to implement a network design.
  • Identifies training needs, coordinates training, and participates in the development of training materials.
  • Participates in the implementation of data/system security processes including access controls, monitoring software, and generation of security reports.
  • Consults with Tech Support and members to diagnose and resolve problems in a timely fashion while stressing positive member impact.
  • Analyzes and isolates root cause.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in computer science or other applicable technical certifications.
  • 7 years' experience in telecommunications including ; PBX platforms, SIP; service deployment in a 5000+ user base production environment; TCP/IP protocol suite and Voice Signaling; deployment of a large-scale voice communications platform required.
  • 7 years of experience in LAN/WAN systems, networks, and applications required. Bachelor's or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience Windows/PC desktop support.
  • Deep knowledge of networking and LAN/WAN technology
  • Maintains a positive and professional attitude when dealing with staff, customers and vendors.
  • Demonstrated the ability to handle multiple projects at once, with strong organizational skills and minimal supervision.
  • Provide direction and support to team members regarding complex technical problems.
