Duties

Operates heavy power equipment such as lawn mowers, portable snow blowers, and all types of hand tools (such as shovels rakes, lawn edging equipment, etc.), to maintain buildings, grounds, roads, trails, etc. Loads and unloads supplies and materials from trucks, trailers, dollies, etc. Moves furniture, removes and sets signs, paints picnic tables and signs, rakes and waters lawns, trims trees and shrubbery, picks up litter, and cleans fire pits. Digs ditches and trenches with pick and shovel where soil is hard and compact and must grade or slope; occasionally breaks up pavement, soil, or concrete; mixes and pours concrete, asphalt, and hot/cold mix; fills and levels holes in damaged roads. Moves heavily loaded wheelbarrows and hand trucks; uses heavy type power mowers including adjusting blades, cleaning and oiling. Cuts heavy trees with axe or chainsaw; stacks heavy logs, lumber, and sacks of cement, etc., or performs other duties requiring similar judgment and comparable physical effort. Performs janitorial duties for buildings in the absence of janitor and as back-up support. Employment/Salary Ranges:

Sagamore Hill National Historic Site - May to November, Oyster Bay, NY: WG-3 step 1 $21.57 to step 5 $25.18.
Acadia National Park - April to October, Bar Harbor, ME: WG-3 step 1 $18.42 to step 5 $21.47.
Roger Williams National Memorial Park - May to November, Providence Rhode Island: WG-3 step 1 $18.01 to step 5 $21.01.
Blackstone River Valley National Historical Park - May to November , Pawtucket Rhode Island: WG-3 step 1 $18.01 to step 5 $ 21.01
Manhattan Sites - May to November, New York, NY: WG-3 step 1 $21.57 to WG-3 step 5 $25.18

Temporary positions not-to-exceed 1039 hours in a service year may be terminated/extended based on management needs and can vary due to weather, project needs, or funding.

U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. Government housing maybe available in the following locations only : Oyster Bay, New York; Bar Harbor, Maine Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT): I am able to perform the most difficult and complex laboring tasks, including maintaining buildings, grounds, roads, and trails; breaks up pavement, soil, or concrete; operating heavy power equipment such as lawnmowers, snow blowers and string trimmers; and safely using a variety of hand tools such as shovels, rakes, hammers, saws, rock bars, etc.; stacks heavy logs, lumber, and sacks of cement; performing custodial/janitorial work practices and the safe use of cleaning chemicals for buildings in the absence of janitor and as back-up support.

Volunteer Experience : Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

CTAP/ICTAP: Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection.
