Midland Basin Overview
ConocoPhillips holds approximately 372,000 total net acres in the Midland Basin, which includes approximately 248,000 unconventional net acres located in the heart of west Texas. The company operates over 2,800 producing wells across Midland, Upton, Andrews, Martin and Glasscock counties.

In 2023, the company operated five drilling rigs on average, including two electric rigs. Net production in 2023 averaged 182 MBOED and 106 operated wells were brought online.

Description
The Permian Planning team is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to take an active role in the development of business plans as a Staff Planning Engineer. As a critical member of the team you will collaborate with individuals across the Business Unit to support active development and help share future program-level decisions.

Your responsibilities may include:
  • Lead the organization as the primary integrator of development plans for Outlooks, LRP submissions and strategy evaluations
  • Lead consolidation of operational driver forecasts of activity, production, capital, and operating costs to ensure complete, executable, and timely delivery of plan submissions
  • Work with Planning, Finance and Asset teams on all aspects of asset development strategy including well / project sequencing, schedule loading, technical translation, and program economics
  • Conduct regular meetings to track progress towards deliverables
  • Leverage operational performance reports to providing insights on trends, opportunities and risks to management
  • Assess the business need for and value proposition of any additional tools necessary to support development planning processes
  • Support quarterly reporting and corporate processes such as AIM, PAR and any other program level analyses as needed
  • Lead adhoc strategic or portfolio modeling requests from Permian leadership
  • Support the preparation of key internal and external presentations for Permian leadership

Basic/Required:
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Bachelors degree or higher in Engineering, Geosciences or foreign equivalent
  • 5 or more years of experience in upstream oil and gas
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft O365 applications: Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, Sharepoint, Teams, and Word
  • Intermediate proficiency in Spotfire and/or Power BI

Preferred:
  • 10 or more years of oil and gas industry experience
  • 5 or more years of experience synthesizing and communicating complex information successfully
  • 1or more years of experience in reservoir forecasting and economic analysis; understands how key financial and quantitative factors impact overall business value and operations
  • 1 or more years of experience in leading multi-functional teams to achieve goals
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Spotfire
  • Advanced proficiency in Aries, ValNav, Enersight, and/or other petroleum modeling and economics applications
  • Understanding of business planning processes and workflows
  • Takes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by holding others accountable and standing up for what is right
  • Delivers positive results through realistic planning to accomplish goals
  • Builds effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical
