Job Description

The Chesapeake Police Department is seeking an entry level Payroll/HR Tech I to enhance our Payroll/HR Team.

Consider using your administrative and accounting talents in supporting the men and women that help keep the Citizens of the City of Chesapeake safe.

A successful candidate for this position will enjoy learning and providing excellent customer service while performing the following duties:

Assisting personnel with various payroll and human resources-related inquiries.Assisting in the preparation of both weekly and semi-monthly payrolls to include verification of timecard data and distribution of checks.Assisting in the onboarding of new hires and offboarding retirements and terminations of sworn and civilian staff.Gathering and maintaining personnel information and preparing related correspondence.Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Requires a high school diploma or GED and any combination of education and experience equivalent to the satisfactory completion of one year of college education in accounting or a closely related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
In addition to satisfying the vocational/educational standard, this class requires a minimum of one year of related, full-time equivalent experience.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Depending on operational needs, may require a valid driver’s license and a driving record in compliance with the

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Preferred Qualifications Experienced in using Kronos, Munis, Click and Peoplesoft or other related payroll and accounting software systems.
Experienced in using Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
Willingness to work in a collaborative team environment.
