APP NICU Supervisor

Position Responsibilities:
• Works collaboratively with NICU Division Director, NICU Medical Director, Pediatrics Administrative Director (or Assistant Director) and UIHC Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Director to assist in advocacy and implementation of advanced practice models of care within the NICU.
• Supervises, directs, and facilitates the care delivered by the APP team within the NICU.
• Provides patient care services in the NICU. Performs/orders medical diagnostic, therapeutic procedures, and prescribes, dispenses or delivers medications under a collaborative practice agreement.
• Consults/collaborates with other care team members. Uses judgment to apply/adopt information within total clinical picture to address health issues.
• Accurately and appropriately completes documentation of patient care in electronic medical record and other records for compliance, billing and other regulatory standards.
• Participates collaboratively as part of the NICU leadership team in addressing significant issues and barriers that affect clinical practice and safety, quality, and professionalism for the NICU.
• Responsible for proactively developing proposals and business rationale to address NICU NP Team requests or needs and working with the NICU Division Director and Pediatrics Administrative Director (or designee) to ensure alignment and submit to Hospital Administration or other offices as necessary.
• Responsible for coordination and implementation of unit-specific orientation, competency assessment and mentoring for new APP staff. This will occur in partnership with the NICU Division Director and NICU Medical Director.
• Facilitates staff meetings on a regular basis (e.g. monthly) and fosters positive team collaboration and engagement.
• Ensures adherence of APP-specific guidelines to regulatory processes and practice evaluation including, but not limited to credentialing and privileging, internal standards, clinical protocols, compliance training, and external professional standards.
• Collaborates with NICU Division Director and NICU Medical Director to identify metrics and monitor performance of APPs including productivity, patient satisfaction, quality, and APP-specific outcomes.
• Promotes growth of APP staff in areas of leadership, clinical excellence, patient-centered care, education, research, and organizational involvement to meet the identified goals and needs of the employee and organization. This includes duties associated with retaining NICU level IV designation, participating in efforts to improve the US News and World Report ranking, quality improvement initiatives, and other items that help advance the NICU or provide developmental opportunities for the APP team.
• Supervises staff performance and compliance in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of care. Hires, develops and manages the performance of staff. Assures APP team provides effective collaboration/ communications. Provides feedback and coaching to other team members to assure quality of care.
• Ensures accuracy and completes timely approval of time and attendance records for NP team.
• Manages human resource issues in a responsible, respectful, confidential, and fiscally responsible manner.
• Collaborates with human resources in recruiting APPs to the division. This includes proactively creating relationships and engaging with other institutions or organizations which can facilitate the recruitment process (i.e. colleges, national or professional organizations, etc.)
• Collaborates with UIHC APP Director to develop and assure adherence of APP-specific guidelines for practice, as necessary.
• Collaborates with hospital leadership, physicians, clinic/unit nurse managers and staff to educate, promote, utilize, and optimize APPs at the highest level of practice, in a team model of care. Participate in clinically relevant activities and attend UIHC APP council meetings and other conferences to enhance clinical and professional expertise.
• Performs other duties, as assigned.

About Neonatology
UI Stead Family Children's Hospital is home to Iowa's only Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The nationally recognized Division of Neonatology within the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics is committed to providing innovative, comprehensive, high-quality care from our team of physicians, advanced registered nurse practitioners, RNs and others that results in the best outcomes for children cared for in the NICU. Each year, approximately 900 babies receive a range of neonatal services in the NICU, which is annually ranked among the top NICUs in the country and has grown to 88 beds with the opening of UI Stead Family Children's Hospital.

Education Required
• Must comply with registration and licensure requirements as specified by the Iowa Board of Nursing, which includes graduation from an accredited nursing educational program and certification by an accepted accrediting agency.
• Licensure as Registered Nurse and ARNP license in State of Iowa by date of hire
• Current Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) Acute Care (AC) certification or Neonatal Nurse Practitioner NNP certification
Experience Requirement
Minimum of three years' experience as a Nurse Practitioner within a Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU), or Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU
Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
