Nature of Work

The purpose of this job is to supervise assigned garage staff , comprised of mechanics and service workers. Duties include supervising workers performing various maintenance, overhaul, inspection, and major repairs on all types of equipment including small light, medium, and heavy-duty gasoline, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, full electric, diesel, compressed natural gas (CNG), and renewable natural gas (RNG) motor equipment. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

Directs the shop workflow Creates and checks all information on work orders after jobs are complete. Handles customer's concerns and complaints. Updates customers when repairs have been completed.  Provide guidance to mechanics to assist with repairs.  Assists ordering of needed parts for equipment. Schedules equipment for routine oil change services and planned repairs.  Maintains a consistent flow of work.  Determines repairs are being done properly and in a timely manner. Obtains estimates and coordinates work with vendors for outside services.  Participates in monthly advisory committees with various departments and provides updates regarding their equipment.  Coordination of work activities between multiple shifts.  Performs related work as required.

Minimum Training and Experience

Required Education and Experience

Associate’s degree from and accredited college or university in Automotive Technology or a related field. --AND--
At least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in performing light, medium and/or heavy equipment mechanical repair and maintenance, including supervisory experience. At least two (2) years of experience using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) or other trade-specific software solution. --OR--
Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities. Required Licenses or Certifications
NGVI Certified CNG Tank Inspector certification, or the ability to obtain certification within one year from date of hire.

Basic financial and budgeting principles.  Modern office procedures, methods, etiquette and computer equipment. Methods, standard practices, theory, materials and tools of the automotive/vehicular/ small engine repair and maintenance trade. Principles of operation of internal combustion engines and the characteristics and maintenance needs of a variety of light and heavy gasoline and diesel automotive equipment and vehicles. Principles of operation and maintenance of alternative fueled vehicles including full-electric, plug-in hybrid, CNG, RNG and hydrogen. Safety precautions and procedures related to the maintenance, repair and operation of heavy and light equipment.  Best practices for operation and maintenance of a public fleet.  Computerized maintenance management systems. Maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries. Evaluate quotes and check bills for accuracy. Manage warranty covered repairs, recalls, and outside services. Assess equipment value. Test fleet fluids. Determine required services for an extremely diverse fleet of vehicles.
