Primary job duties include, but not limited to:


The PBNR Coordinator is accountable for multiple facets of education, training, and professional & organizational development within the larger strategy of promoting a learning culture across the VA-New York Harbor Health Care System (VA-NYHHCS).

The PBNR Coordinator will have a solid working knowledge of the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education Standards for accreditation and become expert within 6 months of employment.

The PBNR Coordinator has responsibility for leadership, oversite, and coordination of the PBNR Program.

This includes:

assessment, planning, design, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the programs and program curricula; development, implementation and coordination of learning resources; monitoring of participant progress; support for faculty/preceptor and staff development; participation in selection and evaluation faculty/preceptors; maintenance if academic program records and the completion of an annual report of the program's accomplishments; collaboration with key stake holders, disciplines and departments, internal and external to the VA-NYHHCS; and preparation of the logistics, documents, resources and staff preparation for CCNE accreditation.


The PBNR Coordinator is expected to exhibit leadership in professional nursing by serving on committees, providing mentorship to professional Nurses, student Nurses and Nurse residents and contribute to his/her own self development.

This position is composed of an education component, unit specific competencies, and a performance component.

Administers the PBNR Program and possesses a solid working knowledge of the requirements of the Program to include attending annual national training, Webinars, Online Trainings and assuring that updates/changes to the program are incorporated into the VANYHHS program and widely communicating program requirements/operations, especially among the Nurse Managers and Preceptors.

Maintains constant readiness for accreditation and re-accreditation of the PBNR program to include logistical management of a site visit, preparation and upkeep of a self-study and resources that provide evidence of compliance with CCNE standards and ensuring that VA-NYHHCS Patient Service Community, especially Patient Care Team Coordinators (PCTCs), Nurse Managers and Preceptors are knowledgeable of the requirements and their expected continuous involvement in the program.

Maintains professional relationships with colleagues in the Medical Center Education Department, Nurse Educators, Nursing Faculty, Nurse Managers, Affiliate Faculty, and other personnel throughout the organization.

Works closely with Nurse Educator colleagues to develop, standardize and administer the PBNR program and is responsible to have a working knowledge of all active programs and the flexibility to travel to all VA-NYHHCS site to deliver education and training to PCTCs, Nurse Managers, Preceptors, Residents and staff, provide advice and assistance anywhere nurses in their first year of professional Nursing have been assigned.

Takes responsibility for leadership and staff assistance in the administration and operationalization of programs that include, but are not limited to:
New Nurse Orientation, the Preceptor Course and ongoing preceptor development, Competency Program, and administration of Simulation training.

Submits list of resident training requirements and costs for next Fiscal Year that will require use of Nursing or Education funds prior to budget request deadline.

Manages recruitment process for new PBNR cohort starting in early spring to include fliers to Academic Affiliates, updating the internet site, collection of application packets, setting up interviews and managing the selection, hiring and onboarding process.
