The Opportunity:

Join the UCF Student Health Team as an Insurance Eligibility/Verification Specialist in the Business Office's Insurance Unit and add to our dedication to provide excellent healthcare to the community that we serve.

This position is responsible for verifying, interpreting and analyzing insurance eligibility and benefit coverage for patients, communicating insurance plan coverage to patients, and maintaining insurance accuracy in the Electronic Health Records (EHR) system.

Responsibilities:

  • Verifies insurance eligibility for patients and analyzes policy coverage in order to maintain patient accounts in EHR system.
  • Determines deductibles, co-payments, and co-insurance for students and patients in participating insurance plans.
  • Verifies that the insurance on file for patient appointments are active.
  • Updates accounts with inactive insurance and contacts patients for additional information.
  • Verifies benefits, HPV vaccines, and travel vaccines for the travel clinic.
  • Receives and verifies patient insurance via multiple sources (in-person, phone, email, Qualtrics, kiosk, International Insurance Pool) and determines network status.
  • Collects payments from patients for student health fees, co-pays, and prior balances.
  • Performs applicable system searches when necessary to determine student status.
  • Assists the appointments/referrals departments and serves as a liaison between participating insurance plans and patients.
  • Answers telephone calls.
  • Greets patients and visitors and directs them to the appropriate office in Student Health Services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to include but not limited to timely completion of all required university and college trainings.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 2+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preference may be given to candidates with excellent communication skills at all organizational levels, as well with patients and insurance plans.
  • Preference may be given to candidates proficient with medical terminology and knowledge of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and how to appropriately use EMR in the performance of work.
  • Preference may be given to candidates able to effectively communicate detailed and complicated processes to patients verbally and in writing.
