The University of Miami Health System at Doral has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Radiation Therapy Technologist 3with a start date of June 2024.

The University of Miami Health System will soon open the second phase to our state-of-the-art facility in Downtown Doral that serves as a western hub for our distinguished regional network of ambulatory services. This 160,000 square foot expansion will continue to bring world-class academic medicine, cutting-edge technology, and innovative treatment options to the rapidly growing Doral community. UHealth at Doral will have services through the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, and the Desai Sethi Urology Institute, as well as specialties such as cardiology, endocrinology, otolaryngology, gastroenterology, dermatology, and more. The expansion will provide residents with innovative, specialized medical services in the heart of their community. Once complete, UHealth at Doral will have 8 operating rooms, 3 endoscopy procedure rooms, 33 cancer treatment bays, over 60 multidisciplinary exam rooms, and supporting ancillary services like imaging, lab, and respiratory therapy. UHealth at Doral will open in September, 2024.

$10,000 SIGN ON BONUS

The Radiation Therapy Technologist 3 simulates and administers radiation treatment to patients as prescribed by the physicians. The incumbent monitors the patients' physical conditions to determine whether any adverse side effects are taking place and provides emotional support. This individual assists in overseeing the work of radiation therapists, to include accuracy of work, productivity, and progress of patients.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Administers doses of radiation to specific body parts, using radiation therapy equipment according to established practices and standards, as prescribed by the physician.
  • Positions patients for treatment with accuracy according to prescription. Reviews prescription, diagnosis, patient chart, and identification.
  • Maintains records, reports, and files as required, including information such as radiation dosages, equipment settings and patient reactions.
  • Observes the patient's clinical progress and uses clinical decision-making skills to recognize and report any signs of complications.
  • Follows principles of radiation protection for patient, self, and others. Adheres to the radiation safety procedure protocol.
  • Operates a variety of computerized simulation and treatment machines safely and effectively. Performs and documents daily machine safety checks. Understands safe limits of equipment operations, and reports and identifies abnormalities or inconsistencies to the proper authority.
  • Constructs immobilization devices and employs custom blocking techniques that are conducive to conformal radiation therapy.
  • Utilizes sophisticated imaging equipment and treatment planning systems for precise tumor localization.
  • Works closely with the Radiation Oncologist and the therapy team in the preparation of a treatment plan that is customized to the patient's needs. Collaborates internally with Radiation Oncology and externally with Medical Oncology and Oncology Support Services for the coordination of patient care and effective scheduling of radiation patients.
  • Performs simulations according to physician's orders. Coordinates the scheduling of new start patients, daily treatments, and simulations.
  • Acts as a resource therapist for all staff members.
  • Understands and trouble-shoots general technological equipment necessary to the department to ensure safe, appropriate, and effective patient care.
  • Assists in the inventory and management of technical supplies.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Education:


• Associates degree in a related field required.

Certification and Licensing:


• Current/valid Florida Radiation Therapy license required.

  • Able to fabricate immobilization devices, blocks, and compensators.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Department Specific Functions

The Radiation Therapy Technologist 3 simulates and administers radiation treatment to patients as prescribed by the physician. This role monitors the patient's physical condition to determine if any adverse side effects are taking place and provides emotional support as needed. The level 3 role assists in overseeing the work of other Radiation Therapy Technologists to include accuracy of work, productivity, and progress of patients, under the general direction of the Radiation Oncology Manager and Chief Therapist.

  • Experience from a high-volume academic center preferred.
  • Effectively operate complex technologically advanced equipment.
  • Assists in coverage of the department as needed.
  • Coordinates the scheduling of new start patients, daily treatments and simulations.
  • Demonstrates fundamental leadership skills and actively assists Chief Therapist with training & orientation of Radiation Therapist Technologists I & students.

Education:


• Graduate of an accredited radiation therapy school.

Certification and Licensing:


• Current/valid Florida Radiation Therapy license required.


• Current/valid accreditation by American Registry of Radiologic Technology.


• Current/valid CPR certification.
