Adjunct Instructor, Electrical Construction Design & Management (ECDM)

Dunwoody College of Technology currently has the need for an adjunct instructor within its Electrical Construction Design & Management major housed in the Construction Sciences & Building Technology department. Dunwoody College of Technology currently has the need for an adjunct instructor within its Construction Sciences and Building Technology Department.

The instructor will be responsible for delivering and maintaining curriculum in line with current industry standards and practices, advising students, developing curriculum, and building and maintaining relationships with industry. Courses are taught online with the potential of class meetings throughout the semester as needed.

The successful candidate will have the ability to disseminate the technical information required to the students along with applying the candidate's own industry experiences to reinforce the prevalent theories in the program.

MAJOR OBJECTIVE:
This position is responsible for initiating the teaching and learning process with a focus on continuous improvement; creating an environment in which students can accomplish the learning competencies of the course of instruction; maintaining, updating, designing and developing new curriculum. The result should be students' abilities to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, ethics, and use of proper tools to meet industry and professional business standards.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitates learning activities so that students learn the principles, theory, skills, and work ethic necessary to become proficient for entry level positions.
  • Creates a positive learning environment.
  • Monitors, assesses and advises learner on technical and academic progress and performance.
  • Uses current academic and industry practices in assigned courses of instruction.
  • Develops and upgrades lesson material, training aids and maintains equipment within assigned course of instruction.
  • As a part of a team, designs and develops new curriculum within assigned program.
  • Provides support to faculty members.
  • Participates in industry and/or professional organizations in order to maintain and enhance program health and academic integrity.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Selected courses the instructor may teach include:

Course Name: ECDM2104 Illumination Technology & Design
Course Description: Interior and exterior applications of lighting. Discussion of energy code,

including control system implementation and lighting power density. Analyze photometric data and

their application and use 3D modeling to design layouts, taking into account luminaire selection

and basic aesthetic considerations.

Course Name: ECDM2205 Electrical Estimating
Course Description: Detailed estimation and project management of electrical construction

projects using industry software. Scheduling and bidding of construction projects and project

documentations.

Course Name: ECDM2208 Project Management
Course Description: Investigate the roles and responsibilities for construction project managers.

Examine the ethics within the decision-making process from the request for proposal through

close-out.

Course Name: ECDM2305 Electrical Planning & Scheduling
Course Description: Create a sequence of construction tasks using industry methods to generate

construction schedules with preplanned and design build work-flow analysis. Examine potential

conditions that impact planning of projects including supply chains, logistics of materials and

equipment, and the workforce.

Course Name: ECDM2306 Risk Management
Course Description: Investigate the process of identifying, assessing, and managing risks

associated with a construction project from the design phase through close-out through analysis of

electrical projects.
Semester: Fall
Day(s) of the week: This class is 100% online, asynchronous

Course Name: ECDM2307 Advanced Estimating
Course Description: Advanced analysis of cost estimating and bidding methods using industry

practices and methods to oversee and manage the successful procurement of electrical

construction projects.
Semester: Fall
Day(s) of the week: Wednesdays, 6-9pm

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must meet one of the following criteria:

  • All faculty should meet the minimum standards required by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). In addition, faculty will have at minimum an applicable associate's degree, related credentials, and experience in the subjects taught.
