Duties

The Information Technology (IT) Specialist (Applications Software) supports the architecture and development of SharePoint solutions, crafting innovative applications to enhance operational workflows, and leveraging automation to drive efficiency gains. Performs a mixture of basic and routine (but progressively more difficult) assignments under the close direction of a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced technical specialist. Assists other employees or acts as an individual contributor and/or member of a team.

Applies basic technical knowledge and limited experience design, testing, modification, installation and implementation, and support of new or existing applications software. Typical assignments may include: computer programming; collecting, recording, and analyzing data/information; identifying problems; investigating and inspecting platforms. Collects and analyze systems information to support the design and development of software solutions including applications, web parts, features, content types, and other constructs. Work with customers to identify problems to assists in the documenting of requirements for the customization and development of intranet or internet sites. Supports more experienced team members in the customization of commercial off the shelf (COTS) solutions to meet government customer needs and requirements.

Assists the team with SharePoint administration, future enhancements, service packs/updates and upgrades, and best practices for maintaining the environments. Assists more experienced team members in the planning and coordination of testing, modification, and implementation of tested technologies. Uses troubleshooting and analytical skills to assist in the diagnosis and resolution of issues while maintaining the confidentiality of information.

Coordinates with a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced technical specialist to plan time and use assigned resources to accomplish assignments. Contacts are primarily internal to the organizational unit with a manager and other employees to share information, provide data and/or written analyses, and to discuss the status of assignments. In some areas, may have regular contact with customers and/or external organizations.

Established policies/procedures provide detailed guidance for almost all assignments, with little or no room for discretion. Works under detailed instructions provided by a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced technical specialist. Regularly refers problems and work issues to a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced technical specialist when existing guidelines are not available or applicable.

Work is reviewed frequently during assignments and at completion for all aspects of quality. Work activities typically support the work of other employees and contribute to activities of the organizational unit. In some areas, the work may affect the safety and security of customers.

    Qualifications

    To qualify for this position, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-F, FG/GS-5-9 in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.
