The Position

This position is responsible for assisting in the advising of students, potential students and parents concerning financial aid availability and how the process works.

The position also provides customer service in the Financial Aid Office in a professional and timely manner by being available to assist walk-in traffic and appointments.

Assist with processing financial aid applications, data entry of relevant documents, completion of verification and packaging awards. This position also aids with the administration and processing of Veteran educational benefits.

What You Will Do

  • Oversees and participates in the Federal verification process, including special circumstance reviews, C-code and reject resolution, dependency overrides and professional judgements.
  • Performs student loan processes, including entrance/exit counseling, interfacing with COD and NSLDS, and monitoring default aversion activities.
  • Awards and adjusts federal and state aid in accordance with federal and state regulations.
  • Provides accurate and confidential financial aid counseling and guidance to students, prospective students and parents.
  • Serves on Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) appeals committee; reviews appeal documents for accuracy and completeness prior to submission.
  • Provides educational benefits guidance and assistance to Veterans, active or reserve military personnel and military dependents.
  • Maintains current knowledge in all aspects of financial aid including changes to federal and state regulations, participating in annual training, professional organizations, and conferences to keep abreast of new information and program changes to be implemented.
  • Provides outstanding customer service to students, parents, staff and community, responds promptly to requests for service and assistance.
  • Participates in open houses, information sessions, financial aid workshops and other related events both on and off-campus.
  • Other related projects and duties as assigned.
The Successful Candidate Must Have

  • Associate's Degree required with four (4) years of directly related experience.
  • In lieu of full experience requirement, a Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of directly related experience will be considered.
  • Directly related experience in a busy post- secondary academic environment with high volume student services tasks and inquiries requiring problem- solving and/ or prioritizing skills and knowledge of federal and state regulations.
  • Ability to excel in team and individual settings; provide support for federal and state financial aid processing and Veterans Educational benefits programs.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and database experience; ability to create standard reports.

  • Experience with Ellucian College System.
  • Experience with New Jersey Financial Aid Management System (NJFAMS) and HESAA E-Administrator.
  • Experience working with National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS); FAA Access to CPS Online; Common Origination and Disbursement (COD)Experience with Perceptive Content (formerly known as ImageNow)Experience working with the VA-ONCE system.
