Description

The City of San Ramon is seeking an energetic, outgoing, customer satisfaction-oriented individual to provide exceptional service to the public at the City's Forest Home Farms Historic Park.

This position provides assistance with weekly activities, educational tours, publicity, communications, and implementation of program curriculum.

This position can accommodate up to 25 hours per week during the school year, which may include weekdays, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Most field trips and group tours occur between 8:30am and 2:30pm. Schedules are made no less than two weeks in advance.

Employees may be given the opportunity to work the Memorial Day and Fourth of July holidays to assist with City special events.

This position is year-round with a majority of hours occurring during the school year. Off-peak seasons are winter and summer.
THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION WITH NO BENEFITS ASSIGNED.

AFTER NINETY (90) DAYS OF CONSISTENT EMPLOYMENT, FORTY (40) HOURS OF SICK LEAVE ARE ASSIGNED TO A SICK LEAVE ACCRUAL BANK, NOT TO EXCEED EIGHTY (80) HOURS.

Under general supervision, provides leadership and functional direction to a recreation program, activity, facility or service; directs and/or leads the activities of a program, activity or service; organizes and implements program elements and oversees participants, and performs related work as required.

Receives direct or general supervision from assigned supervisory or management personnel. Exercises no direct supervision over staff. May exercise technical and functional direction and provide training to lower-level staff.
This is a journey-level class utilized in the Parks and Community Services Department. Positions are filled on a seasonal or program-specific basis. The class is distinguished from the entry-level class positions by responsibility for on-site coordination of a specific program area.

EXAMPLES OF TYPICAL FUNCTIONS (Illustrative Only)Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job.

Supervises staff and trains volunteers that support special events and educational programs; oversees, plans, and/or directs daily Farm Education program activities.

Analyzes facility and program needs and recommends new and innovative program ideas.
Provides feedback regarding program goals and objectives, budget development and activity schedules.
Develops and distributes promotional and marketing information.

Assists with the creation of the planting schedule for organic garden and organizes schedule with garden volunteers alongside other staff.

Assists the public with questions and problems.
Opens, closes, secures and maintains a safe program environment and facility; and conducts safety checks.
Maintains records and prepares reports, as necessary.
Attends mandatory pre-service and in-service trainings and meetings.
Administers first aid as required; handles emergency or extraordinary situations by notifying the proper authority or responder.

Serves as the primary point of contact in regard to accidents and incidents that occur during program hours and completes required reports.

Uses Standard office practices and procedures, including the use of standard office equipment, basic recordkeeping, arithmetic, and computer applications related to the work.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:
Techniques of leading and overseeing daily program participants and activities; practices of supervising and training lower-level Recreation Leaders and volunteers; safety principles and practices, including basic first aid and adult and/or child cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) methods; basic safety precautions and procedures related to recreation program area(s) and facilities; standard office practices and procedures, including the use of standard office equipment, basic record-keeping, arithmetic, and computer applications related to the work; safe work practices, including safe driving rules and practices; English usage, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation; techniques for effectively dealing with individuals of various ages, various socio-economic and ethnic groups, and effectively representing the City in contacts with the public; and techniques for providing a high level of customer service by effectively dealing with the public, vendors, contractors, and City staff

Ability to:

Work independently while supervising facilities and program participants; understand and apply facility use policies and procedures; provide courteous assistance to facility patrons; arrange facilities for community events and/or meetings; basic computer system operation to enter and retrieve data for class registration and facility reservations; remain flexible and adapt as job responsibilities change; handle medical emergencies and injuries in a calm and effective manner, including providing basic first aid and adult and/or child cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR); maintain facilities and equipment in a clean, safe, and secure manner; operate modern office equipment including computer equipment and software programs; make accurate arithmetic calculations; perform routine equipment maintenance; maintain accurate logs, records, and basic written records of work performed; understand and follow oral and written instructions; organize own work, set priorities, and meet critical time deadlines; use English effectively to communicate in person, over the telephone, and in writing; Use tact, initiative, prudence, and independent judgment within general policy, procedural, and legal guidelines; and establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.

A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Education Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) gradeANDExperienceTwo (2) years full-time experience or its equivalent of recreation experience relevant to the area of assignment.

Appropriate clearances from background check/fingerprinting including documentation of a negative skin test for TB within the last two (2) years is required upon hire

Licenses and Certifications:

At the option of the City, persons hired into this class may be required to either possess at entry or obtain within specified time limits designated licenses, certificates or specialized education and training relevant to the area of assignment.

Additional requirements may include, but are not limited to:

California Class C Driver's License
First Aid and CPR/AED certifications
