The Psychologist serves on the Bonham, Plano, Sherman Mental Health team, which is a large interdisciplinary team. This is a 100% clinical care position. Duties for this general mental health/BHIP position include, but are not limited to:

  • Treating Be able treats disorders with complex, multidetermined etiologies and makes psychosocial and psychological diagnoses within approved Clinical Privileges or scope of practice.
  • Is Be knowledgeable and able to apply, a wide range of professional psychological theories and assessment methods to a variety of patient populations.
  • Is knowledgeable of current Conduct research literature and has received training in evidence-based treatments relevant to the position (e.g., Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy for Depression, Motivational Interviewing, and Integrative Behavioral Couples Therapy).
  • Responds to patient crisis situations in a timely manner with the goal of assisting the patient to maintain a positive and effective relationship with the staff, family, and other patients. Patient and staff safety will take priority in any crisis.
  • Serves as a consultant to other medical center staff, assisting in their formulation of psychological characteristics and appropriate treatment expectations regarding their patients. As such it is necessary that the incumbent communicate and interact well with other disciplines and treatment providers.
  • Actively participates in the MH team's performance improvement project(s) aimed at evaluating inefficiencies within the clinic and developing strategies to remedy such issues.
  • Actively participation in ongoing supervision and didactics. The incumbent may teach educational seminars for pre- doctoral psychology interns and for postdoctoral psychology fellows as applicable.
  • Be able to use VA supplied software to complete a variety of job tasks.
  • Assist the clinical and medical directors in the execution of ongoing program evaluation and data-driven quality improvement projects to monitor the effectiveness of the clinic.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of existing pay, higher or unique qualifications, or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).

Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)

Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.

Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
