North Florida/South Georgia VA Healthcare System's Psychiatry - Substance Use Disorder Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic Physician. Duties

This is an open continuous announcement that will remain open until filled. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis. Eligible applicants will be referred each week for consideration until a selection is made.

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

The Physician (Psychiatry) - Substance Use Disorder is in need of mental health professionals who will be responsible for diagnosing and treating psychiatric disorders, usually through medication. Their duties include studying mood, personality and behavioral disorders, discussing symptoms with patients to determine a diagnosis and prescribing medication to correct chemical imbalances in the patient's brain.

Psychiatrist duties include but not limited to:
  • Be able to diagnose and treat substance-use disorders as well as potential coexisting psychiatric disorders (dual diagnosis);
  • Recognize, diagnose, and treat the disorders concurrent with the substance abuse issues;
  • Must also recognize certain health effects from illicit drugs in order to properly treat;
  • Provide consultation and works with a multi-disciplinary team whose services include individual, family and group counseling; intensive outpatient services; crisis intervention; dual diagnosis; ambulatory detoxification and medication assisted treatments; and linkage to community-based services and support.
  • May also provide virtual care including video and telephone-based care to serve patients over a geographic area.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with rotating tours of duty as needed.
