Job Description

The Senior Director of the Data Sciences Center of Excellence is primarily responsible for driving Stride's strategic transformation to enable Data as a Product via the DataOps methodology. The Sr. Director of the Data Sciences COE will drive the establishment of data usage requirements, data definitions, data presentation standards, and liaise between executive leadership and data engineering teams to deliver high quality data insights and their related representation with data-driven/AI products as aligned to Stride's strategic objectives.

  • Extensive experience using python, R and/or other scripting tools to conduct data exploration, data cleaning, improvement advanced statistical and machine learning algorithms (e.g., time-series analysis and forecasting, forecasting, clustering, and advanced classification and regression techniques such as decision trees, neural networks, deep learning, and ensemble algorithms), as well as rigorous model validation and evaluation
  • Drives all aspects of the DataOps methodology supporting data as a product; includes the establishment and governance surrounding data ops processes, identification of data ops resources across the business and PD/IT;
  • Lead a diverse team of data team of data scientists, data engineers, analysts, and reporting specialists working with massive sets of data to conduct exploratory data analysis, predictive modeling, and hypothesis-testing as well as build dashboards and design innovative strategies that improve student retention and academic outcomes;
  • Responsible for the developing the organizational design, team structure, accountabilities, short-term and long-term strategy for the Stride Data Science team;
  • Establishes and leads governance activities to create common data definitions, data consumption/presentation patterns and UX standards;
  • Designs, implements and maintains enterprise data domains for use in self service, ML/AI Ops, as well as considers new use cases for the domains;
  • Leads data and AI product developers supporting multiple product needs across the entire organization;
  • Drives data and AI product collaboration across executive leadership, functional leaders and data engineers to deliver new insights and products aligned with strategic goals;
  • Maintains and trains the enterprise on regulations and current events regarding data and AI;
  • Coordinates with data owners, product owners and AI Ops on AI product roadmaps, concept ideas and prioritization;
  • Maintains broad business understanding to drive the establishment of new data and AI products that meet consumer expectations;
  • Tracks data domains and ML/AI product features and execution; work closely with PMO;
  • Continues and builds upon Competency-based training with all Data Strategy roles;
  • Leads and manages Alation documentation, training and support as part of Data Governance;
Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises 2 - 6 Full-time Equivalent (FTE) regular employees and/or contractors. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Physics, or other Technical or Education field,AND
  • Seven (5) years of related professional experience OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
Certificates and Licenses: None required.

OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Management experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results through matrix teams/organizational structure.
  • Documented training or certification in Data Science leadership.
  • Exemplary oral and written communication skills including meeting facilitation and presentation.
  • Effective collaboration skills with ability to interface with all levels of management and staff.
  • Ideally has broad business understanding to provide context.
  • Understanding of Data Governance concerns (compliance, quality, etc.).
  • Should be strong at facilitating conversations to drive consensus / decision making.
  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, etc.); Web proficiency.
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time.
  • Ability to clear required background check.
