Summary

Duties

Clinical Responsibilities: The SUD-PTSD Psychologist works within the PTSD specialty teams (TSRP) and SUD team (STAR) providing clinical consultation with staff and services to a panel of patients with complex, comorbid health conditions. Direct clinical service duties include, but are not necessarily limited to:

· Provides a full range of diagnostic and evaluation services appropriate to the care setting, especially in the areas of general psychological evaluation of emotional and behavioral problems and focused psychosocial, cognitive, or other assessments, , particularly for complex patients with both PTSD and Substance Use Disorder diagnoses;

· Offers a full range of group and individual mental health interventions consistent with training and expertise, with special emphasis on brief and evidenced-based interventions found to be effective in the treatment of PTSD and SUD, focusing particularly on veterans recently diagnosed with symptoms of posttraumatic stress and concurrent substance use disorders within the TSRP and STAR programs;

· Demonstrates sensitivity to the special needs of all patients in respect to age, gender, ethnicity, developmental requirements, and culturally-related factors;

· Engages as an active member of the multidisciplinary TSRP clinical team, regularly contributing to team goals, morale, and interpersonal relationships among members of the team;

· When indicated, will provide services related to PTSD and SUD symptoms via telehealth to Veterans at CBOCs on Oahu and also on neighbor islands, Guam, Saipan, and/or American Samoa;

· Facilitates care coordination including warm handoffs for Veterans with complex needs related to PTSD and SUD who require a variety of addiction, mental health and primary care services at the medical center;

· Provides consultation to other providers and clinics within Mental Health Service in the area of PTSD and SUD, concerning clinical assessment findings and appropriate treatment plans;

· Will consult with other Medical Center and CBOC staff to address the impact of psychological areas of functioning, including PTSD, on broader health care issues;

Administrative Duties may include, but are not necessarily limited to:

· Provides individual and team consultation and education/training regarding Veterans presenting with co-occurring PTSD and SUD to TSRP, STAR, and/or other clinical teams throughout the medical center and CBOCs in accordance with VA/DoD CPG. It is not expected that this individual clinically treat all individuals with PTSD and SUD; therefore they lead trainings and program design/development efforts across the catchment area to enhance integrated care;

· Serves as Point of Contact and liaison between the TSRP and STAR program at the facility. Attends team meetings for both clinics as part of this role;

· Participates in program development, implementation of MBC, outcomes evaluation, and performance monitoring to address and monitor the population-based needs of individuals with co-occurring PTSD and SUD, and to aid in the development of processes to integrate clinical care for Veterans with co-occurring trauma and addiction disorders.

Professional, Training, & Research Functions:

· Provides clinical supervision to students, doctoral psychology interns, and postdoctoral psychology fellows (residents); also, may be involved in the training of psychiatric residents as appropriate;

· Provides didactic training experience for psychology trainees and for interdisciplinary staff within the Medical Center;

· Participates fully in peer and professional practice reviews, assessing the quality of professional psychology services provided in the organization;

· Assumes responsibility for professional development by attending relevant training and regularly reviewing the professional literature to improve clinical competencies;

· Attempts to enhance professional services by promoting, initiating, assisting, or participating in program evaluation and/or other basic and applied research activities;

· Provides training, lectures or workshops to mental health staff, medical staff, and others in the community when requested to do so;

· May serve on Medical Center or other mental health committees and task forces intended to improve patient care processes and professional competence.

Work Schedule: 7:30 AM - 4:00PM Monday - Friday
