Qualifications: Ability to develop positive relationships with students, colleagues, and the school community. Ability to work well with others, resolve controversy and conflict through respectful negotiation, and accept constructive feedback. Strong communication skills to facilitate connection and sharing of thoughts and ideas in multiple formats with diverse audiences. Ability to reason, interpret, and analyze information to generate new knowledge and understanding. Adept at problem-solving, resilient when faced with challenges, and skilled in planning and organization. Experience at the middle school level preferred.

Job Goal: Under the supervision of the building Principal and Associate Principal, the Elementary Dean of Students would assist administrators, teachers, and parents in creating a positive learning environment for all students. The Dean of Students will help students resolve problems that interfere with students gaining their most significant benefit from the school's educational opportunities.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
Assist teachers, parents, and students in resolving non-academic student issues in the school, such as behavioral problems. Maintain records of any student disciplinary actions taken in accordance with applicable laws and regulations and District policies. Confer with parents, teachers, support services personnel, and students on the matters of discipline and problem-solving. Provide mentoring services to students and consultation services to parents. Report to administers, teachers, school attendance staff, parents, and students relative to issues affecting student performance. Recommend appropriate programs for students to assist them with behavioral problems. Instruct and advise students regarding their responsibility to adhere to school rules and policies, foster a safe school environment, and respect other individuals and property. Assist in arranging for appropriate tutorial instruction related to assigned academic work. Assist in the administration of the In-School Suspension Program and co-curricular activities. Arrange meetings as directed with students, parents, teachers, and administrators regarding disciplinary problems in school. Lead committees and teams, serve as grade level or department liaisons, participate in building and district initiatives. Provide staff development as assigned; providing leadership to meet school and district strategic plans and improvement plans. Perform other tasks, duties, and responsibilities as assigned by the principal.
Work Environment and Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; occasionally walk and stand. The ability to hear and see in order to communicate effectively as well as communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; Maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties; Maintain mental capacity, allowing for effective interaction and communication with others.

Terms of Employment: 188 days contract

Evaluation: By the Principal at least twice each year in the first three years of service (December 15 & April 15), and at least once each year thereafter (April 15).
