I. Job Summary

Under general supervision, performs data analysis with extensive experience in time series modeling and forecasting. Develops algorithms and uses advanced analytic tools to develop and evaluate a broad spectrum of analytics for large data sets.

Works in collaboration with the leadership team to identify and analyze business problems and document, implement, and present the technical information to various stakeholders.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other ancillary duties may be assigned.

  • Develops/iterates on data processes and statistical models that generate financial forecasts.
  • Performs data analysis; develops algorithms and computational solutions as necessary to support the business units of the organization.
  • Ensures data quality and reliability and provides feedback to business process owners, leadership, and to the IT department.
  • Knowledge of machine learning methods is viewed as beneficial but not required.
  • Identifies new data sources that will maximize analytic capabilities for the various business units.
  • Will be responsible for developing models and production-level code that integrates with our company-wide financial forecasting platform, which guides strategic decisions, financial and capital-asset planning, and investor calls.
  • Observes current systems/processes and interacts with the appropriate personnel. Utilizing a variety of sources, collects and analyzes information to support the modeling and analysis.
  • Collaborates with leadership to identify, define, and solve a variety of problems and support various corporate initiatives.
  • Fluency in Python (NumPy, Pandas, etc.) and SQL is required, and familiarity with AWS and GitHub is strongly preferred.

IV. Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.

A. Education and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor's degree (accredited) in Economics, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science or similar area of study, in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and 4 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience: Three years of relevant work experience (in addition to education requirement).

B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements

  • None required.

C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required

Intermediate knowledge and skills in one or more of the following is required:

  • Knowledge and understanding in how to identify root causes of problems, create effective practical solution approaches, and implement solutions under the tactical demands of business operations.
  • Strong knowledge of statistical methods and concepts, including regression, state-space models, regularization, causal inference, model selection/averaging, and cross-validation, is critical, particularly within the context of time series data.
  • Experience with working as part of an integrated solutions development team to provide value to systems engineering and development for specific decision support application.
  • Experience working with moderately complex, medium to large-scale data sets in an advanced data mining analytic role.
  • Practical knowledge and demonstrated experience of statistical models and methods.
  • Strong programming experience in Python and SQL.
  • Knowledge of large relational databases, and SQL programming.
  • Knowledge and working experience in SAS toolsets (SAS training preferred).
  • Problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to present, communicate and articulate complex information to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Committed and highly motivated team player.
  • Ability to demonstrate a customer service and customer focused mindset.
  • Familiarity with data mining and visualization tools.
  • Must be local to Houston area and able to commute to corporate office in downtown Houston; no relocations.
  • Must be open to working a hybrid work schedule being in-office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and remote on Mondays and Fridays.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US.
