PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Labor Relations Officer supports the Labor Relations Team and may serve as the primary point of contact for certain crafts with responsibility for integration, administration and application of the applicable collective bargaining agreements (CBAs), policies, and procedures to achieve the designed corporate objectives.

Additionally, the Position will serve as a point of contact for the Company for day-to-day management of such agreements and reporting through LR centric systems.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Ensure a strong presence in the business and has a thorough understanding of the key business strategies
  • Populate and utilize the knowledge management system that codifies knowledge and transfers tacit knowledge
  • Support the integration of CPKC systems with participation in cross-functional groups across the Company
  • Manage reporting system (i.e. Grievance Entry System, Grievance Management System, Dashboards) in collaboration with LR Team
  • Provide support in the consolidation of collective bargaining agreements and ensure information is captured as required
  • Establish constructive relationships with internal stakeholders
  • Deliver discipline, grievances and arbitration reporting across entire US properties as appropriate
  • Facilitate the recognition of essential change management plans pertaining to people, process, and technology

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • 2 years of direct or related experience
  • Knowledge of company operations particularly Field Operations, Transportation, Engineering and Mechanical Services is an asset
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills
  • Business acumen and the ability to apply business knowledge and translate business requirements to strategy planning and implementation
  • Capability to provide and monitor the education and training of LR managers in skill and knowledge areas critical to system integration requirements and continually improve CPKC capability in this regard
  • Ability to exhibit patience and balance with strong, proactive approach to get things done and continuous improvement of CPKC core principles
  • Ability to drill down, understand root cause and resolve complex issues
  • Demonstrate ability to effectively work cross functionally

Management Conductor Program:

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
