Position Overview

Operation Breakthrough is a dedicated non-profit organization committed to creating a secure, supportive, and educational environment for children facing poverty while empowering their families through advocacy, emergency assistance, and educational opportunities.

ROLE SUMMARY: The Community Engagement and Media Relations Specialist serves as the primary liaison between Operation Breakthrough and community stakeholders in fundraising initiatives. This role encompasses collaboration with external partners who propose fundraising opportunities and the identification and cultivation of new partnerships. The specialist will oversee all social media channels, crafting timely content that aligns with the organization's mission.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Communications or a related field, along with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in fundraising, marketing, or event coordination.
  • Exceptional creative writing and verbal communication abilities, coupled with strong organizational skills.
  • Prior experience in social media management, blogging, video production, and graphic design (Adobe Suite) is highly desirable.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Event and Partnership Coordination: Serve as the main point of contact between Operation Breakthrough and community partners, nurturing relationships and collaborating on fundraising projects. Plan, organize, and execute various fundraising events, ensuring they align with the organization's objectives. Maintain accurate records of donations and net proceeds.
  • Social Media Oversight: Manage and create engaging posts across all social media platforms to enhance the organization's online visibility and narrate the stories of Operation Breakthrough's families. Strong photography skills and innovative ideas are advantageous.
  • Website Management: Develop a strategy for bi-monthly blog entries. Create pages for third-party events on the website and keep the community calendar updated.
  • Communication and Network Development: Effectively communicate with all supporters of Operation Breakthrough and act as the liaison for The OB Network, a monthly donation support group, including expanding membership. Coordinate media coverage for Operation Breakthrough.
  • Become proficient in managing the organization's website, particularly in updating Community Event pages, and provide backup support for the Director of Marketing and Events.
  • Implement the Communications Plan in collaboration with the department and analyze metrics on a quarterly basis.
  • Maintain and enhance community relations and partnerships for Operation Breakthrough.
  • Coordinate media coverage for the center.

COLLABORATION WITH DEVELOPMENT TEAM:

  • Assist the Development department in planning, marketing, and executing fundraising events that benefit Operation Breakthrough, including logistics management. Collaborate with Development staff on the distribution of marketing materials, record-keeping, and donor acknowledgment.
  • Support donors providing monetary and in-kind contributions to Operation Breakthrough.
  • Promote special event sponsorship opportunities among donor networks.
  • Facilitate connections for donors, individuals, and community organizations interested in engaging with the center through donations, tours, and external fundraising efforts.
  • Act as a liaison for specialized agency projects, offering general support related to fundraising, public outreach, advocacy, marketing, and other fundraising objectives.
  • Uphold confidentiality regarding donors and donations according to established protocols.
  • Represent Operation Breakthrough at community events to enhance the organization's visibility.
  • Demonstrate the ability to prioritize multiple projects and tasks to meet deadlines.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, and preferably Adobe Suite.
  • Experience with fundraising software and database management, particularly The Raiser's Edge, is preferred.
  • Support the professional growth of colleagues by sharing resources and providing constructive feedback.
  • Assist with various departmental activities, including organizing internal and external meetings and events.
  • Ability to engage with families in crisis and promote communication, warmth, and respect among all stakeholders.

  • Exhibit excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills and the ability to work independently.

  • Possess a passion for Operation Breakthrough's mission to positively impact the lives of at-risk children and their families.
  • Knowledge and skills related to donor engagement and event planning.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
  • Physical ability to bend, kneel, and squat frequently throughout the day.
  • Capability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds multiple times a day.
  • Maintain CPR and First Aid certification.
