Major Duties include but are not limited to the following:

Interviews Clients and Conducts Psychosocial Assessments

Interviews veterans and their family members/significant others to establish facts about the veteran's situation, presenting problems and their causes, and the impact of such problems on the veteran's functioning and health as part of a comprehensive psychosocial assessment.

Reviews all data, subjective and objective, and makes a clinical assessment identifying needs and strengths.
Uses advanced clinical training, insight, and experience to interpret data and to identify viable treatment options.
Assesses high risk factors, acuity, and need for services.
Makes Psychosocial Diagnoses.
Assesses at-risk factors and develops a preliminary disposition plan involving the veteran and family or significant others.

Performs insightful assessment of serious and complicated cases involving psychiatric illness, catastrophic medical conditions, dementia, and other high-risk diagnoses.

Makes independent professional decisions and recommendations for agency action.
Develops psychosocial treatment plans in coordination with interdisciplinary team members, including goals for psychosocial clinical treatment.

Provides clinical services to veterans and family members/significant others in support of the veteran's Page 3 of 8 treatment.

Assists and encourages veterans and significant others in facing problems, thinking them through, evaluating the situation realistically, considering alternative courses of action, and arriving at plans for using resources to resolve problems.

Establishes a continuing relationship with the veteran, evaluating progress towards goals and adjusting the treatment plan as appropriate.
The Senior Social Worker utilizes outcome evaluations to further treatment and designs system changes based on empirical findings.

The Senior Social Worker collaborates with the other members of the treatment team in the provision of comprehensive health care services to Veterans, ensures equity of access, service, and benefits to this population, and ensures the care provided is of the highest quality.

The Senior Social Worker provides leadership, direction, orientation, coaching, in-service training, staff development, and continuing education programs for assigned social work staff.

The work of the Senior Social Worker involves intensive social work services requiring the exercise of mature professional judgment and the flexible use of a wide range of complex social work practice skills not typically required in routine social work interventions.

Work Schedule:
M-F 8:00 am - 4:30 pm or as determined by supervisor.

Compressed/Flexible:
This may be authorized at Supervisory discretion.

Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply for incentives.

Competitive salary and regular salary increases.


When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications, or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).


Paid Time Off:
37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)

Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.

Parental Leave:


After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.


Child Care Subsidy:


After 60 days of employment, full-time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy of up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.
