Under general supervision, performs various semi-skilled maintenance and/or construction tasks and performs related work as required. Participates in the work of an assigned athletic field or park maintenance crew, performing semi-skilled and unskilled tasks relating to grounds maintenance and facility repairs. May lead a crew in the absence of Maintenance Crew Chief, inspects and approves the work of Maintenance Workers. Performs maintenance on park facilities e.g. athletic fields, sport courts, picnic areas, playgrounds, amphitheaters, trails, restrooms, parking lots, signs, fencing, etc. Duties include mowing, snow removal, and other grounds maintenance tasks. Removes litter and performs rough carpentry, light construction, minor repairs, and painting of facilities, as necessary. Operates a tractor/bucket loader with attachments, infield groomers, utility vehicles, mowers, and other equipment. Uses gas powered equipment such as trimmer, blower, and chainsaw. Inspects and drives a truck with and without a trailer combination to haul equipment and materials. Informs supervisor of conditions requiring special attention. Maintains tools and equipment in good working order. Completes daily work reports when supervising a crew. Performs related duties as required.

Reports each morning to Area 5, Flatlick Maintenance Shop at 4501 Brookfield Corporate Drive, Chantilly, VA. 20151and is dispatched to assigned parks. Work hours are 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, with overtime required when necessary. Occasional weekend, evening, and holiday work required. Positions are subject to transfer to other maintenance operation locations. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the position. Position is Emergency Service Personnel.

Performs various semi-skilled tasks, to include specialized concrete and asphalt work (e.g., setting forms, finishing, etc.);General maintenance and repair of machinery;Inspects and approves work of Maintenance Workers;Provides guidance and training to Maintenance Workers;Ensures that all white goods are properly processed prior to recycling;May lead a crew in absence of Maintenance Crew Chief;Inspects, and reviews work of a crew engaged in a variety of basic maintenance, construction and grounds keeping activities;May Lead grass cutting, sodding, seeding, and fertilizing activities;Leads playground equipment maintenance;Completes daily and preventive maintenance reports;Engages in safe working practices and complies with safety programs and guidelines;

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Working knowledge of small engine equipment;Knowledge of single axle dump truck, trailer, utility bucket truck, snow plow, spreader, tank truck, water truck and pickup truck; Working knowledge of and the ability to use methods, tools and equipment commonly used in maintenance, construction, and grounds keeping activities;Knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety practices;Basic knowledge of computers;Ability to lead other employees in a variety of activities, maintain records, and prepare reports;
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions;
Ability to perform activities requiring manual dexterity;Ability to perform basic data entry;
Ability to work outside with regular exposure to severe weather, noxious fumes, high levels of dust, etc.;Ability to perform medium to heavy manual labor;Ability to comprehend and comply to safety practices; Ability to maintain effective relationships with customers, employees and supervisors.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to completion of the tenth grade; and two years of experience in maintenance, construction, or a related field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: At least two years of supervisory experience. At least two years of experience with operating hand-held and walk-behind power equipment such as string trimmers, sod cutters, chainsaws, edgers, and leaf/snow blowers. At least two years of experience with operating riding equipment such as: skid-steer with attachments, tractor with attachments, and athletic field equipment. At least two years of experience with the repair and maintenance of outdoor maintenance equipment such as mowers, tractors, and landscape equipment. At least three years of experience in grounds maintenance, construction, or related field. Possession of or the ability to obtain a Virginia Registered Tech Pesticide Applicator Certificate or Commercial Applicator (categories 3A Ornamental Pest Control, 3B Turf, and/or 6 Right-of Way Pest Control) CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Driver's license (required)

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to bend, twist, turn, stand, sit and stoop. Ability to climb on and off equipment. Ability to lift 50 lbs. Ability to operate grounds equipment. Ability to operate motor vehicle and trailer. Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time. Ability to traverse uneven ground. Ability to work in variable weather conditions while performing physical labor. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
