The Manufacturing Design Engineering Section Manager within Manufacturing Engineering is responsible for leading a support team consisting of Manufacturing Design Engineers who are technically trained individuals with diverse backgrounds and varying levels of experience supporting development programs and products. The successful candidate will report to the Manufacturing Design and Systems Engineering Department Manager and will be accountable for providing functional support and producibility expertise to various programs through the management of approximately 15 engineers. The Section Manager will be responsible for coaching and training engineers in Manufacturing Engineering skills and processes in addition to mentoring and providing career guidance. Responsibilities also include providing technical guidance, coordinating resources, managing team staffing levels, conducting interviews, department project ownership, providing input for strategic issues and plans for the department and programs, cross functional collaboration, coordinating with other sections, safety, and performance development. The ideal candidate will possess the demonstrated skills and experience necessary to perform in both technical and manufacturing leadership roles.

The Section Manager is responsible for the technical quality of engineering tasks and must ensure the proper processes and technical oversight are completed. The Section Manager is also expected to support proposal activities and provide cost estimates for program bids and department initiatives.

    • Providing technical input and peer review to engineering designs and design changes
    • Developing Manufacturing Data Packages (MDPs) including assembly instructions, workflow/routing, labor standards, tool, and fixture designs
    • Leading Continuous Improvement through design and process improvements to improve cycle time, reduce ergonomic risk to operators, automate, reduce costs (both direct and indirect) using CORE principles and data driven decision making
    • Developing and implementing manufacturing process control and performance monitoring

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an advanced degree in a related field and minimum 7 years experience.
  • Experience in a manufacturing and test environment
  • Experience leading teams or projects
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Access (ATF) clearance.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
