Sandia Preparatory School is seeking a Major Gifts/Development Director to oversee and manage the School's development team to raise $1 million+ annually through major gifts, annual giving, corporate and foundation giving, planned giving, and special events. The Director plays a pivotal role in Sandia Prep's development team, responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major donors to secure significant philanthropic investments for the school. The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of School and Board of Trustees and will have a proven record of fundraising success.

Position Overview

The Major Gifts/Development Director is responsible for establishing a culture of philanthropy within the SPS community in addition to setting the strategic direction for development. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan to meet the organization's annual revenue goals, including the cultivation and recognition of our donors.
  • Manage a portfolio of high net worth donors and prospects, developing and implementing tailored cultivation, solicitation and stewardship plans.
  • Support development team in soliciting volunteers and sponsorships for special events that include a gala, golf tournament, Alumni Weekend, and Grandparents' Day.
  • Oversee the membership and stewardship of giving societies, including Society1966 for major donors and the Simms Society for planned giving.
  • Research and apply for grant awards and manage all aspects of post-award grants including reporting requirements.
  • Solicit and steward endowment funds.
  • Act as a liaison to the development committee of the SPS Board of Trustees, collaborating with committee chair(s) on fundraising campaigns.
  • Manage the departmental budget.
  • Collaborate with the marketing department for events, communications, and community education.
  • Monitor and analyze fundraising data to evaluate performance and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Lead the development team with joy, appreciation, and a passion for Prep's mission and vision.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in major gift fundraising, preferably in an educational setting.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write compelling donor communications and marketing materials.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with diverse stakeholders.
    • Strong leadership and management skills, with experience managing a team.
    • Experience with fundraising software and donor databases.
