IMPORTANT:

Upon satisfactory completion of the externship, the extern may be offered a permanent position as a staff audiologist.


We are especially interested in interviewing candidates who would ultimately like to practice in this rural part of the country , but will consider all applicants.

The extern will work primarily in our Miles City office with occasional reimbursed travel to our other two clinic locations in Billings and Glendive.

He or she will work with patients of all ages under the supervision of two audiologists doing comprehensive hearing testing, hearing aid dispensing, tinnitus testing and treatment (including Lenire), APD testing, cochlear implant and BAHA/Osia candidacy and CI mapping, hearing conservation community outreach, cerumen management, cognitive screening, business building activities, and collaboration with other professionals including staff SLPs.

Please note that our audiologists do not hold ASHA's certificate of clinical competence.

This is a full-time, hourly position with occasional paid travel (2-4 times per month). Three weeks of vacation/sick time is provided plus a minimum of eight paid holidays.

For those without another source of health insurance, the extern may elect to participate in our company healthshare with 100% of the premium covered, OR to receive a health insurance stipend of $200 per month.

The extern is also eligible to participate in our treatment plan bonus program, and will receive a holiday bonus.

Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:

  • Pure tone audiometry
  • Speech audiometry
  • Masking
  • Immittance testing
  • DPOAEs
  • Real ear measures
  • Ear impressions
  • VRA/Play audiometry
  • Interacting with and testing patients of all ages
  • Selecting and explaining best hearing instrument options
  • Modifying hearing aids and ear molds/cleanings/repairs
  • Cerumen removal (at least some experience)
  • Gathering and interpreting case history information
  • Basic familiarity with cochlear implants and osseointegrated implants
  • Basic familiarity with tinnitus evaluation and treatment
  • Writing clear, concise reports Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship:
  • Expand patient counseling skills
  • Identify and counsel cochlear implant/BAHA candidates
  • Develop speed and efficiency in assessment, counseling, and report writing without sacrificing quality of care
  • Perfect hearing aid modification and repair skills
  • Use EHR to manage schedule and store patient information
  • Make appropriate referrals to other specialists
  • APD testing and collaboration with treating SLPs
  • Tinnitus assessments and management with therapy, HAs, and Lenire
  • Develop and nurture relationships with referring providers, help to expand referral base
  • Take part in community education events
  • Cerumen management with both curettes and Earigator system
