Part-time accountant for a high school

Springfield Commonwealth Academy is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced
Accountant to join our team, located in the dynamic state of Massachusetts. The ideal
candidate will have a strong background in accounting and finance, with the ability to
manage financial operations and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements in a high
school setting. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the financial stability and
success of our school community while supporting our mission of providing a quality
education for all students.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable,
    payroll processing, and budget monitoring.
  • Prepare and analyze financial reports, statements, and projections to inform
    decision-making and strategic planning efforts.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, ledgers, and databases in compliance
    with accounting standards and best practices.
  • Coordinate with school administrators, department heads, and staff members to develop
    and monitor departmental budgets and spending allocations.
  • Process purchase orders, invoices, and reimbursement requests in a timely and efficient
    manner, ensuring accuracy and adherence to budgetary guidelines.
  • Reconcile bank statements, credit card statements, and other financial accounts to ensure
    the accuracy and integrity of financial data.
  • Assist with the preparation of annual financial statements, audits, and tax filings in
    collaboration with external auditors and tax professionals.
  • Provide guidance and support to school staff members on financial policies, procedures,
    and systems to promote fiscal responsibility and compliance.
  • Collaborate with school leadership and stakeholders to develop and implement financial
    strategies and initiatives that support the school's mission and goals.
  • Understand and effectively convey SCA's philosophy, vision, and mission Qualifications:
    • CPA.
    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred, but not required.
    • Minimum of 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a school district or
      educational setting.
    • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial management practices, and
      regulatory requirements relevant to educational institutions.
    • Proficiency in financial software systems, spreadsheets, and database applications
      (experience with software such as QuickBooks, Peachtree, or similar accounting software
      preferred).
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial data,
      identify trends, and make informed recommendations.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with
      diverse stakeholders and build positive relationships.
    • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines
      in a fast-paced environment.
    • Commitment to integrity, ethics, and confidentiality in handling sensitive financial
      information.
    • Flexibility and adaptability to navigate changes and challenges in the educational
      landscape while maintaining a focus on financial stewardship and accountability.
