COLLECTION ANALYSIS AND STRATEGY

Collection Analysis and Strategy (CAS) is one of four departments in the Collections & Content portfolio of the University of Washington Libraries. The department consists of four librarians including the Director. CAS supports the distributed, three-campus collection development activities through the pursuit of data-driven, efficient, and transparent systems for the selection, acquisition, and management of resources to support teaching, learning, and research. CAS works with our consortial and other external partners to extend the reach of our community to access the resources they need to succeed.

THE POSITION

Reporting to the Director for Collection Analysis and Strategy, the Resource Sharing and Collection Strategy Librarian will work in a team environment within the Collection Analysis and Strategy (CAS) department to provide analysis and develop strategies for incorporating resource sharing (interlibrary loan and document delivery) into collection development and management decision making. The librarian will take the lead on working with our resource sharing network partners on policies and resource sharing agreements, and investigate new partnerships to expand the reach of our resource sharing network. The successful candidate will have the capacity to thrive in an exciting, ambiguous, future-oriented Libraries environment, and to respond effectively to changing needs and priorities.

This position is not tenure eligible. This position is represented by SEIU 925 – Libraries. Please see the SEIU 925 collective bargaining agreement for the Librarian promotion process.

This position is eligible for hybrid work (on campus and remote).

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Resource Sharing

Takes the lead on working with the Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery unit to integrate resource sharing into collection strategy.
Collects and analyzes resource sharing data for use in decision making for collection development, management, and budget planning.
Investigates and recommends new initiatives for expanding resource sharing including expanding borrowing agreements with resource sharing networks, and expanding content available for sharing.
Investigates and recommends new tools and technologies for resource sharing.
Participates in the preparation of budget recommendations, reports, and operational and cost studies for resource sharing as needed.
Contributes to discovery systems configuration as it relates to resource sharing.
Collaborates on activities in support resource sharing systems, policies, and operations in the Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA), Orbis Cascade Alliance, and the Greater Western Library Alliance (GWLA).
Participates in regional, national, and international resource sharing discussions.
Collection Strategy

Works with staff from Acquisitions, Preservation, and other departments in the UW Libraries to manage the UW Libraries shared print repository programs.
Investigates and recommends new opportunities for the UW Libraries to join or lead new shared print repository programs.
Working with other CAS librarians, supports subject librarians through training and documentation.
Pursues opportunities for professional growth aligned with position responsibilities, and professional interests and goals. Follows trends in the profession and continually updates knowledge of issues and current developments as they relate to the position.
Contributes to the UW Libraries and the profession through productive service in professional associations, consortial activities, and University Libraries committees and task forces, as appropriate.
RANK

BENEFITS

Librarians are academic personnel and participate in the UW Retirement Plan (UWRP) or the state's Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) Plan 3. This is a full-time, 12-month appointment. Vacation is accrued at the rate of 26 working days per year; sick leave at the rate of 12 working days per year. No state or local income tax. A summary of benefits associated with this title/rank can be found at Appointees solely employed and paid directly by a non-UW entity are not UW employees and are not eligible for UW or Washington State employee benefits.

SALARY

The base salary range for this position will be $5,500-$7,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Other compensation associated with this position may include a moving allowance.

ANTICIPATED START DATE

While we hope to fill the position in Summer quarter 2024, we are happy to work with the successful candidate to explore opportunities for an earlier or later start date.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS

Required

Graduate degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association or an equivalent graduate library science/information studies degree.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and a more socially just society and understanding of the contributions a diverse workforce brings to the workplace.
Minimum of two (2) years of post-MLS/MLIS experience in a library setting.
Evidence of the ability to work with others in a demanding and rapidly changing environment where consultation, collaboration, and cooperation are valued and essential.
Evidence of excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred

Experience in interlibrary loan and document delivery tools and processes.
Experience or coursework in collection development and collection management.
Experience or coursework in assessment models and techniques in collection development.
Experience with applying accessibility best practices and standards in a workflow or process.
Demonstrated experience in planning and managing projects, and working with a wide range of stakeholders.
