Gusto processes billions of dollars in payroll every month for small businesses and their employees. Our clients trust us with a huge amount of personally identifiable information (PII) and protected health information (PHI), including SSNs, EINs, salaries, home addresses, and more. Our business is largely built on trust, as a result protecting our clients' PII and PHI is one of the top considerations in anything we do at Gusto.
Gusto is looking for a network engineer to help operate Gusto's corporate, datacenter, and cloud networks. You will be focusing on day to day operations, large scale projects, and helping us build the future of corporate networking. This role will have a heavy emphasis on both traditional networking, and automation to help manage and scale our corporate network as we grow.
Here's what you'll do day-to-day:
- Deploy new network tooling focusing on scalability, reliability, and security
- Write code to help monitor, configure, validate, and operate the corporate network
- Excel in a rapidly evolving environment, adapt quickly to new information, and reprioritize as needed
- Develop and maintain consistency within the networking infrastructure
- Ability to participate in a regular on-call rotation and work non-standard hours during network changes
- Travel to Gusto offices once per quarter for implementation, driving of projects, and troubleshooting
- Partner with security and infrastructure teams to develop and maintain key resources
Here's what we're looking for:
- 5+ years technical network engineering experience including hands on deployment, configuration and management of routers, switches, firewalls, wifi and security solutions.
- Strong Knowledge and hands-on experience working with networking protocols.
- Experience with Linux systems and shells, daemons, and processes
- Experience with programming languages, like Python or Go
- Experience building, deploying, and operating distributed services and monitoring for production networks
- Passion for driving continual improvement initiatives in our network. You are able to monitor and measure the health of your service with metrics, SLA reporting, and dashboards.
- Experience with AWS/Cloud based infrastructure
- Knowledge of methods and procedures for managing instrumentation, automation, and orchestration
Bonus Points:
- Previous NRE experience
- Experience with source control systems and version control (git, github, gitlab, bitbucket)
- Familiarity with a wide range of Network device vendors (Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, Opengear)
Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $115,000/yr to $140,000/yr in Denver, and $135,000/yr to $170,000/yr for San Francisco & New York. Stock equity is additional. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.
Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas.
When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required.
Our customers come from all walks of life and so do we. We hire great people from a wide variety of backgrounds, not just because it's the right thing to do, but because it makes our company stronger. If you share our values and our enthusiasm for small businesses, you will find a home at Gusto.
