Position Details:

Grainger is looking for a Data Engineer for our Email Marketing Team. The Data Engineer will report to the Senior Targeted Marketing Manager. The Targeted Marketing Team's primary mission is to develop campaigns to drive customer objectives by centralizing and integrating high-quality, trusted data in a performant and scalable manner. This position will manage the technical development, execution, and maintenance of all email campaigns (promotional, trigger, and transactional). This includes having a thorough understanding of how systems are integrated (for example SAP, Hybris & Responsys) to develop both new campaigns leveraging APIs as well as maintain existing tactics leveraging the integrated systems and APIs. You will work with marketing SMEs, architects, analysts, data scientists, and others to build solutions that integrate data from many of our enterprise data sources.

You Will:

  • Manage seamless end-to-end promotional, trigger, and transactional email campaign production and execution, including campaign set up, audience creation, automation, deployment, and reporting
  • Manage and oversee the development of HTML, RPL (Responsys Programming Language), Java, and Open Source to optimize customer experience in both email campaigns and form submission on
  • Collaborate closely with teams across the enterprise, understanding the unique business needs, data requirements, and goals to enhance customer experience through email campaigns or forms on to deliver against business goals
  • Identify and design internal process improvements including re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, optimizing data delivery, and automating manual processes
  • Build required tools for extraction, transformation, and loading of data from data sources
  • Assist in building product features to allow self-service analytics
  • Oversee & manage email deliverability, ensuring high inbox deliverability rate for all email campaigns. Ensure adherence to email best practices and privacy laws to achieve this
  • Innovate around emerging digital opportunities, inclusive of data techniques and vendor capabilities

You Have:

  • 3-5 years of experience in high volume email marketing using a top tier ESP, preferably Responsys
  • Comprehensive technical skills in HTML/CSS, Java, SQL, Open Source, Snowflake, Airflow, Responsys Programming Language
  • Successful track record in managing large-scale data sets
  • Experience with both scripting and system programming languages
  • Experience with defining and testing APIs (SOAP and REST)
  • Experience leading data integration efforts of data sources
  • Passion for customer-centric email marketing, customer segmentation, and building and launching campaigns
  • Strong understanding of email and CRM best practices, i.e. privacy laws, content creation, list management and targeting, and campaign automation
  • Experience partnering with internal departments (Marketing, Customer Strategy, Sales, and Advanced Ecom) to establish requirements.
  • Translate requirements into technical requirements and produce required source-to-target data mappings.
  • Exhibit excellent attention to detail and project management skills to successfully juggle multiple projects and priorities in a fast paced, results oriented environment
  • Ability to attract, develop and mentor team members
  • Ability to exhibit strong collaborative, team working, and verbal/written communication skills
