Job Summary

The University of Utah is seeking a skilled and dedicated Workers' Compensation Manager to enhance the management of workers' compensation claims on campus. This position will play a crucial role in streamlining processes, improving efficiency, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and university policies.

Responsibilities

Claims Management:

Oversee the intake and processing of workers' compensation claims, including the completion of First Report of Injury ( FROI ) forms and coordination with Workers' Compensation Fund ( WCF ).

Notify injured workers, supervisors, and relevant departments of claim filings and provide necessary documentation.

Coordinate claims between injured workers, medical providers, and insurers to facilitate timely resolution.

Compliance Assurance:

Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including timely reporting to worker's compensation claims managment and Occupational Safety & Health Administration ( OSHA ).

Record and report work-related injuries and illnesses accurately and promptly according to OSHA standards.

Stay updated on changes in workers' compensation laws and regulations to ensure adherence.

Cost Containment:

Implement strategies to contain claim costs, including the development and management of a formal Modified Duty Program.

Evaluate subrogation opportunities and investigate potential instances of fraud to minimize financial losses.

Employee Support and Experience Enhancement:

Serve as a consistent and competent point of contact for injured workers, providing support and guidance throughout the claims process.

Expedite care responses and claim resolutions to enhance the overall employee experience.

Develop and implement initiatives to improve communication and transparency in claims management.

Safety Initiatives and Collaboration:

Collaborate with Environmental, Health & Safety and Occupational Medicine divisions to drive safety-related corrective actions based on claim trends and analysis.

Participate in safety committees and initiatives aimed at preventing workplace injuries and illnesses.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Occupational Health, Business Administration, or related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Four to six years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department's area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Completion of provided supervisory training within one year of employment may be required. Master's degree in a related area may be preferred.
